Jajajajajasjaj por favor no
Uh este cuento ya me lo sé
BREAKING: The UK is now preparing to ration diesel and petrol and could impose a nationwide 50mph speed limit, with government contingency plans now on the table as pump prices hit a record, per the Express.
It comes as UK diesel broke its 2022 record yesterday at 199.11p a litre (£1.99).
The plans include a maximum purchase scheme limiting how much fuel drivers can buy per visit and restricting selling hours, priority filling stations for emergency services, directed bulk deliveries to utilities and public transport, prioritised diesel for food and health supply chains, and government allocation of crude and imported products.
The UK had 42 days of diesel left as of July, the lowest of any developed nation apart from Australia.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
UK government has not announced preparations to ration diesel or petrol; existing contingency plans are for severe national shortages only and officials state the supply remains diverse and resilient despite record prices.

Exacto. “Late capitalism”
People didn't suddenly become allergic to work.
The deal got worse.
Working 40 hours was a lot easier to tolerate when 40 hours bought:
Housing.
Food.
A car.
A vacation occasionally.
Some savings.
And maybe a future.
Take away enough of the reward and eventually people start questioning the transaction.
The problem isn't always that nobody wants to work.
Sometimes the paycheck stopped making the work worth it.

No podría haberlo expresado mejor. 👏👏👏
This is why I ultimately wanna move on from working on da computer.
Maybe if I was 22 again, I’d be super excited by all this AI stuff, and eager to throw myself into it—and there is totally gonna be a new wave of young millionaires who seize the moment properly.
But I’m tired, boss. Unless you’re a true purebred autist, the sedentary/screen life feels brutal after awhile.
I spent a ton of time learning to code in the 2010s and early 2020s, and had a lot of success and made good memories that I’m grateful for… but I just don’t know if I’m up for a round 2.
Also, unlike pre-2023, there is also this sense that all this work is going to keep getting cannibalized, bit by bit.
It’s a disorienting and even dreadful feeling going to work every day knowing that much of what you’re doing is being slowly eaten away at, and might not even exist in 5 years.
It feels very unnatural and existentially wrong to work on things that you suspect might soon disappear. Humans have a strong preference for working on projects that they think will last.
Struggling to figure out my next project from here.
Major trend I'm seeing in hiring: people are asking to be part-time, come in three days a week, and have a 4-day weekend to work on their personal projects.
Let that sink in: people are asking for 60% of the salary of a full-time job!
Positive that people are upfront that they're not interested in doing a 40- or 50-hour workweek
I could see the United States moving to a standard 4-day workweek in the age of AI, with people getting fewer named vacation, sick, personal and holidays, etc.
Abstract the work agreement to 4 days a week × 50 weeks a year = 200 days of work for X salary
But you have to Come to an office and actually work
there's going to be a grand negotiation that occurs over the next decade or two
