Why do American cities feel less "alive" than their European counterparts?
It's because of something called the "missing middle".
A century ago, American cities looked completely different... (thread) 🧵

The demolition of Brutalist buildings may one day be viewed as an architectural tragedy.
They are already old-fashioned and will one day become truly old, a window into an era long since passed, as so much architecture is and can be - if it survives long enough...

Buenas noches Madrid ! 🇪🇸 J'adore photographier cette ville, et le fait que j'y ai trouvé mon premier boulot n'y est sans doute pas étranger 😉

Madrid at night! I love photographing this city, maybe because it’s where I got my first job… #citiesatnight #MissionAlpha

Darnella Frazier was 17 when she recorded the video of Derek Chauvin pressing his knee into George Floyd's neck. The footage ignited international protests over racism and police abuse and shaped the trial in which Chauvin was convicted of murder. nyti.ms/3gyqLKG

People talked about $GME a whole bunch in January, but I don't think you realize just what is happening in the market and how this one stock could result in the greatest transfer of wealth in human history... so, I give you this thread:

It's time to start recognizing how much of our current reality is cloaked in illusions and capitalism that preys on designed gestures while operating unethically.
It's time to get down to the real business of reality.

These brands aren't on your side and they certainly don't hold these positions. Corporations know they have to pretend to care about diversity, inclusivity, and progressive ideas while using those buzzwords as illusions to hide their exploitation.

Robin Hood marketing itself as a business to "democratize investment" and then capitulating to the demands of the elite few is a great time to remember that businesses sell themselves on progressive sloganeering in order to profit off your political sensibilities.

@vladtenev why didn’t you halt hedge fund stock trading, too? For the sake of democraticization? Or give everyone a heads up at mid day that there would be a sudden shift in procedure the following day? Why did these moves only negatively affect retail traders?

This is unacceptable.
We now need to know more about @RobinhoodApp’s decision to block retail investors from purchasing stock while hedge funds are freely able to trade the stock as they see fit.
As a member of the Financial Services Cmte, I’d support a hearing if necessary.

More than half of all Robinhood users own at least some GameStop stock.
They are now unable to freely trade it; the app is only allowing users to close out their positions. vice.com/en/article/m7ak7y/r…

Gotta admit it’s really something to see Wall Streeters with a long history of treating our economy as a casino complain about a message board of posters also treating the market as a casino

this is extremely funny & the inevitable aftermath will be the country's wealthy elite—the same people who didn't give a shit as millions of people got fucked over in 08—clamoring for more safeguards on the market to prevent this from happening again bc this time it affects them

They killed a cop by beating him with a fire extinguisher and it really goes to show that blue lives matter was never about honoring the police force, but about silencing the black lives matter movement
