Gears of War: E-Day is a victim of how Xbox handled its brand. Older Gears games sold far better as exclusives.
Spend an entire generation telling people they don’t need an Xbox, and eventually you’re left with fewer people to sell your games to.

Xbox skipped its Year in Review last year, but something considerably more ambitious appears to be taking its place.
“Xbox Playback” has leaked early, offering a nostalgia-packed trip through your Xbox history, from where it all started to the games and achievements that defined it.
Perfect timing for Xbox’s 25th anniversary. 💚

Why would an xbox gamer buy the game when it is available on the service that they paid for.
The pot shots at xbox gamers for using the service as intended and then trying to sound sympathetic to the sudio as if XBOX gamers set out to have it close.
Pathetic.
Respectfully, this take sits oddly next to your own past comments. On Gamertag Radio you’ve said you “don’t care about exclusives,” that you “think exclusives are bad,” and that you “don’t like exclusives.” You’ve also publicly backed “Xbox Everywhere” and told people upset about multiplatform releases to just stop complaining and play something else.
Xbox spent years training its audience that day-one Game Pass is the intended way to play first-party games. Many of the people who wanted E-Day as an exclusive are exactly the ones who followed that model (subscription + premium upgrades rather than full-price purchases). Questioning them for not buying a game Microsoft deliberately put on Game Pass day one feels like shifting responsibility onto fans for a strategy the platform itself created and promoted.
The bigger cracks are on the Xbox side: the multiplatform push followed by a selective return to exclusives, reported studio leadership unhappiness with Game Pass devaluing their work, high development costs, and sales figures that look modest against those budgets even after weeks on the market. Fans didn’t invent that tension.

Gears of war E Day was made exclusive to change the perception of the Xbox brand. Being subscribed to Xbox Game Pass helps subsidize the development of these games. Influencers guilting people about buying the game is so absurd especially when they the game for free.

Free Xbox codes, zero spine, and opinions that change with every PR statement. Yet you lecture people paying full price? Fucking clown.
Please show us how much YOU have supported The Coalition.
If you pay for gamepass ... and you get gears on gamepass ... why would you pay to buy it?
The game is on gamepass
Absolute hypocrisy
XBOX gamers are expected to pay for a subscription and then also buy the game that is on that subscription
People like Danny are Absolute hypocrites

If 400K is accurate for Gears of War: E-Day, it wouldn’t include those who paid early access and doesn’t tell the whole story.
That said people who are jumping at Xbox fans for not supporting it by buying it, other than weirdos like me why are we blaming the fans for not buying it?
That is why Game Pass exists in the first place. If this wasn’t on Game Pass then this is a much bigger story and failure, but if someone is paying for a service and a game is in said service I wouldn’t expect them to buy it. Would love for them to do so, but don’t expect it.
I still think the end game here is first party stops being day 1 game pass, but until that day comes sales as the metric is too difficult to determine how successful a game is on Xbox.

A Sony Win???? Since when was Phantom Blade Zero a PlayStation game? Did Sony make it or publish it? No, it's a third-party game with 12 months of exclusivity on PlayStation consoles; that's it
