This is interesting. DOJ is talking about a product called Branch, which was a search product to look on the phone, not the web. Google explicitly prohibited AT&T and Samsung from integrating Branch's search tools.

A few retrospective @branchmetrics IDFA Apocalypse graphs, looking back from the five-month mark:
🔹ATT consent rates are eerily stable since July.
🔹iOS 14.5+ adoption is 89%.

6/ Finally, the successful device-level attribution rate is trending downward.
This is partly an artifact in the data: advertisers are rushing to get a few final installs from the dwindling < iOS 14.5 userbase.
But the takeaway remains unchanged: this number is very low.

The latest iOS 14.5 numbers from @branchmetrics:
🔹Combined adoption of iOS 14.5+ just hit 20%.
🔹Device-level attribution rate is only 6.6% of pre-ATT baseline.

After investigating deep link failure for a customer, we found Firebase is directly calling iOS app delegate lifecycle methods github.com/firebase/firebase… This is the equivalent of chewing with your mouth open in SDK development.
Insights into one of the more interesting decisions we've had to make in the last few months. We've chosen to protect our customers instead of risk their businesses. blog.branch.io/ios-14-att-ba…
I believe iOS14/ATT will harm user privacy. Just like water, tracking technology flows through the easiest path. IDFA was the simple path, and it gave user's the ability to hide/reset. Now, the industry will fall back to tracking in ways that users can't control.
It goes without saying that we at Branch would never do anything of the sort, and love Apple/iOS14/ATT/etc. blog.branch.io/attribution-o…
That feeling when you spend years laying the groundwork for your long term plan, and it finally clicks into place. Can't wait to start talking more about this.
Here's why Google could care less about IDFA
One workaround to Apple's new ATT restrictions: present a superficial value prop that has nothing to do with ad targeting while you suck up the data behind closed doors steamclock.com/blog/2021/02/…
Any mobile company that is app-only, majority iOS, and doesn’t have the brand loyalty to even ask for ATT permission (games and other frivolous apps) will no longer need an MMP. Pure-play MMPs are getting out or stacking cash for a pivot bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
I’m convinced that there’s an inverse correlation between text size and text importance in work correspondence
When your data-industrial complex is so comprehensive that you don’t even need IDFA to print tens of billions of dollars in targeted mobile ads
