Everyone complaining about 2020 being the Worst Year Evar has got it all wrong.
2020 is the year God turned into the greatest practical joker of all time. Grab some popcorn and laugh right along with Him.

“Men Don’t Read”
We know from the start that there ARE books for male readers. Plenty of them.
We know for a fact that there ARE male readers. Nothing else explains the zombie popularity of books with the deceased person's name “Tom Clancy” printed on the cover. Tolkien remains popular despite what Amazon did to his world. Male readers do exist.
The problem is connecting the two.
That’s what publishing companies used to do. It wasn’t that they created books. It was that they knew how to get a manuscript in front of people who would enjoy it.
They have stopped doing that for certain segments of the market.
It won’t work to post on X telling them they need to fix that. They’re making money on what they’re doing now; they have no reason to try something new.
If we want to solve the problem, we’re going to have to do it ourselves.
We need a sales vector that male readers will WANT to open, want to get in on, want to check out.
First we must build that audience. Once we have an audience, we must—MUST—serve them first. If the readers can’t count on this sales vector to give them books they are going to love—books they will not be able to put down—then they will not tune in to the sales vector.
My idea is, essentially, “BookBub for men.”
Now, BookBub already includes books for men. But they’re generalists, and they’re not really *trying* to aim at men. They’re just sweeping up a few men in their general hunt for readers.
Gathering the audience means doing what BookBub does: paying for ads that entice the male readers we want to sign up.
We’re going to have to reward the audience for looking at our sales vector. Every email opens with a snack-sized little tidbit guys will like: a 300 word history of a historic last stand, of a hero who rose against the odds, etc.
It’s not just books. Every email should have stuff guys really enjoy: craft beer, bourbon, guns, military history.
And also a few books on sale.
Next comes the part that’s hard, but that I personally believe is indispensable:
We can never give a charity review. Never. If we’re focused on the audience, we must serve the audience. If we tell them, this book is good, they must be able to trust our word. That’s why BookBub works. You can buy a book that makes it into BookBub with reasonable certainty that it doesn’t suck.
As you, I hope, can guess from the way I’ve worded all this, I don’t want to do it on my own. But I believe we have a solid group of writers here who produce books for men. Working together, I think we could put something like this into practice.
The @basedbooksale already has a big piece of this. Spotlight on Indie (@spotlightfic) has a big piece of this. @upstreamreviews has a big piece of this. Where I see this idea as offering added value is a relentless, fanatical devotion to the audience, rather than the authors.
The books are out there. The readers are out there. All that's missing is the connection between them.
Young boys are being discouraged from getting into reading—and it’s because more books are missing one key element, @sophiah_n reports: theatlantic.com/culture/2026…

Lol. He did the meme.

......The focus was on the means of the political assassination, as opposed to the target. This is the hate-monger who said that people should keep "pistols firing" toward J.D. Vance and denounced him as a "white nationalist prostitute bigot" and an "antichrist-style sociopath."

...Notably, the joke was hysterically funny for Welch all the way up to the point that sponsors decided that they had had it with her "I've Had It" podcast. It is further proof that Welch's signature vulgar, rageful shtick is little more than a performative business plan.

Tell you what - let's force girls to read exclusively about military stories of combat in school.
Then in twenty years, we ask why girls don't want to read?
Same exact reason - you have to allow them to read something that engages their interest. I've read somewhere on the high side of 10,000 books in my life. But if I hadn't already loved to read when I got to high school, high school teachers would have beaten that love out of me.

The two books that 'turned' me from preferring non-fiction to fiction were LEST DARKNESS FALL (which involves a great deal of 'non-fiction' problem solving) and THE BLUE WORLD - also science problem solving.

Once boys read eagerly and fast, they will most likely end up reading almost anything, at least once. If they don't start (with something that appeals to them) they won't.

Well, the answer is certainly not "force them to read girl stuff." That will end in tears.
And yes, there is a *general* gender binary, whether Katie wants to admit it or not. Boys want to read The Black Stallion, not The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.
And they're not broken because of that.

God is spirit, not sexed. But since He self-refers as “He,” that’s what I’m going with.
And it’s not that I’m opposed to naming the reality that God is sexless; it’s that I’m opposed to the reasons WHY progressives are insisting He can’t be male. It’s subversive for all the wrong reasons.

He’s got the policy thing down and now that he’s out of the governor’s mansion he has more free time to develop the raw sexual charisma needed to win a GOP primary.

I never said there was.
But if we’re going to use the analogy of dogs, do you contend that different dog breeds do not exist?

Yes, but dogs have significantly more genetic variation and diversity between breeds than humans do between different global populations. Humans share 99.9% of DNA and genetic variation within any given racial group is often greater than the variation between different groups.

In fact, as a taxonomic term, race defines an informal subdivision of subspecies which are physically and genetically different. However, the species Homo sapiens cannot be further subdivided into subspecies which are physically and genetically different. Thus, for H.sapiens, the species and subspecies are the same—H.sapiens sapiens.
Scientists discovered that genetic isolation, sharp boundaries and distinct evolutionary lineages of ‘races’ do not exist. Thus, the idea of ‘race’ as a genetic category was presumably put to rest. The continued acceptance of ‘race’ as an appropriate biological category would have to be predicated on data indicating there are genes distinct to one ‘race’ that are transcribed in one ‘race’, but not another and human genetic variation is not continuous. This is distinct from small differences in allele frequencies due to mutations in a given family’s genetic lineage

I just keep coming back to the line from Terry Pratchett’s Hogfather. When tasked with finding the hogfather, Lord Downey points out that he may not even exist. To which the auditor points out that if he did not, Downey would not recognize him.

I have more in common with a black conservative than I do with a white progressive. I have more in common with a black Christian than I do with a white atheist. So what exactly are we talking about here?
Because progressive culture doesn't look like MY culture at all, but plenty of progressives are white.

So do I. I am not arguing otherwise. I just do not think that racial categories are entirely arbitrary.
Personally, as a conservative, I reject the progressive reduction of human dignity to their materialistic traits.
