It's a horrible feeling when someone convicted is someone who was known to you. Mark was on my borough, I knew him to have a conversation with & worked central aid a few times with him over the years.
I was shocked to hear what had happened - I felt he was a decent guy, but others who knew him better have since told me differently. Just goes to show, you never know what someone is capable of, even if they seem decent.
🚨 FORMER MET POLICE OFFICER GUILTY OF RAPING WOMAN HE MET THROUGH HIS WORK
Former Metropolitan Police officer Mark Tyrrell, 57, has been convicted of rape, three sexual assaults and perverting the course of justice.
The woman repeatedly told Tyrrell “no” before he raped her. Jurors heard that he later acknowledged what he had done was rape.
Tyrrell served in the Met’s Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command — the same command in which convicted rapists Wayne Couzens and David Carrick also served.
Police concerns were raised after officers attending the woman’s home over an unrelated matter discovered Tyrrell hiding beside her bed.
He attempted to delete messages exchanged with the woman and persuaded her to lie to police about why he was in her bedroom.
In one message, he apologised for “being a sex offender” and “for ruining your life by being in it”.
Tyrrell denied that the sexual activity was non-consensual, maintaining it had been consensual. He was acquitted of 13 other charges, including a further rape count.
He will be sentenced at Southwark Crown Court on 16 December.
Couzens is serving a whole-life sentence for kidnapping, raping and murdering Sarah Everard in 2021. Carrick is serving 37 life sentences for a series of sexual offences against women.

Suspended sentence for Irish man who threatened to shoot Jewish woman in France
Patrick O’Brien, 60, from Ireland, has been issued a six-month suspended prison sentence in France after admitting to attempting to “justify crimes against humanity” and making death threats “aggravated by their antisemitic nature”.
The charges related to an incident which took place in August of this year in Avignon, France, footage of which showed an Australian Jewish couple accusing the Irish man of threatening to “put a bullet in” the head of the Jewish woman and saying “I’m sorry Hitler didn’t finish the job.”
Mr O’Brien appeared at Avignon Criminal Court, where he was found guilty and issued the sentence. He was also told to pay €500 to each of the Australians, and a further €300 to several Jewish humanitarian groups.

The "feminine side," the crossdresser history, the pressure to be a "proper son", it's the classic pattern of a feminine gay boy who grew up when that was heavily stigmatised. They always end up wearing their sisters', daughters', wives', or mothers' clothes, too.

CONFIRMED. Gas Standing Charges to be scrapped. I've just come out of a meeting with the Chancellor. The gas standing charge will be scrapped in 2027 (my guess, either for 1 Oct price cap or the 1 Jan 28 price cap). Having campaigned against the moral hazard of standing charges for years, I'm pleased.
It's currently £108 a year. That cost will be shifted onto unit rates. We don't know how much yet, but I suspect just under 1p per kwH.
The Chancellor also said he will be talking to Ofgem about how they get rid of the charge on electricity as well, but that is 'trickier' apparently and will take longer.
This is primarily about the price cap standing charges. There will still be an open market, so other firms can offer other forms of prices with or without the standing charge. My suspicion is that once it goes on the price cap, it will tend to be reduced on other tariffs as well.
As for those on fixes: if you get a fix now, the rate of your fix is fixed, so this should not affect it. You will pay what you pay and if it has standing charges they will continue (some asking if they should delay fixing because of this, no if a fix is right for you and will save you money, don't let this change that - this is about the structure of bills, as opposed to the actual costs on bills).
About 60% of people will pay less due to this, 40% more. My guesstimate is the dividing line will be somewhere around 12,500 kilowatt hours of gas (can't know until there is actual pricing). According to a study by Nesta, this switch would leave the majority of people in all income groups under £100,000 better off.
Of course, when this does come in, if we're still in the nightmare that we are right now, there will need to be support put in for vulnerable higher users, who will have to pay more. Though hopefully by then the mid-east will have calmed and energy prices lower.

That's all long term. The biggest issue in energy right now is that we're expecting a 27% rise in the price cap in January. I asked the Chancellor whether he will be intervening on that. He told me I'd have to wait for the budget, but reading between the lines, yes, there will be an announcement today.
Whether it's an increase in the Warm Home Discount, or whether it's council tax banned, or whether it's done via a payout for people in say council tax bands A-D as a proxy for household income as Rishi Sunak did who knows.
