Seven Hours and Counting: Mallam Nasir El-Rufai Still in Court as Kaduna Trial Stretches into the Evening Today’s sitting at the Kaduna State High Court has become the longest hearing so far in Mallam Nasir El-Rufai’s ICPC trial. He was produced in court around 11:50 a.m. on the order of Justice Darius Khobo, after missing Monday’s session because he had asked to see his personal doctor over medical test results. By evening, supporters outside were still waiting, with the proceedings running well past seven hours. He arrived in the company of the ADC governorship candidate, Isa Ashiru, under tight security. The case involves a nine-count charge of alleged financial misconduct from his years as governor. He has pleaded not guilty and remains in ICPC custody, where he has been held since mid-February. This long day in court comes only days after the Court of Appeal dismissed his bail appeal and left the earlier refusal of bail standing. No conviction has been entered against him. The trial continues, and the length of today’s hearing has drawn fresh attention to how long he has already spent in detention without a final determination of the charges. We pray for strength, health, and justice for Mallam Nasir El-Rufai. May Allah grant him ease, protect him, and bring this matter to a fair and speedy end. Ameen.
