The primary verified problems are administrative failures, incomplete data sharing, weak monitoring, and elevated exploitation risks under record volumes and policy choices that encouraged rapid release. Under the Trump administration, efforts to locate previously released children, clear the hotline backlog, conduct welfare checks, and pursue related investigations have been reported. DHS and HHS statements and reporting have cited locating over 145,000 children through visits, door knocks, and case updates, along with follow-up on the prior hotline reports that led to some rescues and arrests.
