Marco Sturm on Mikey Eyssimont, who is tied for the AHL lead with nine goals through six games:
“We recognize it as a coaching staff and also management. Mikey came in and he had a great preseason. Now he’s playing great again. Unfortunately, it was just a roster spot and all that kind of things happened, and unfortunately, he was the odd man out. But I do believe he will get his chance again with one injury, and he’s right back at it. I’m just happy that he didn’t drop his head [about] playing in the minors. No, he’s been a really good pro. Like I said, he came in ready to go this camp, and now he’s proving it. So I’m very happy for him.”

Morgan Geekie:
“Like I said, I could (not) really care less, honestly. It’s probably, like, a cliché thing to say, but I truly do not care one bit about it. And it’s easy to nitpick and be like, ‘Wow, he should be scoring goals,’ and obviously I’ve had a few chances, and it’s frustrating at times. But, like you said, we have the two best records in the East going at it tomorrow. It’s tough to complain when you’re sitting at the top. So just try to continue and pitch in in other ways. I think every line’s going to be pitching in offensively, and if you can get a little bit from everybody, that’s better than a lot from just a few.”

Marco Sturm on Morgan Geekie, who has one goal in the first 12 games:
“Every forward, every goal scorer needs to feel good. If you’re not scoring, then you get a little tight. That’s absolutely normal. With him, just for example, the other night, he had some really good looks on the power play. He just missed the net. Last year it went in. So that’s the fine line, and that’s something you just need to continue to work on and you got to work through it. That’s just part of being a goal scorer. Last year, he had a little taste at the end. This year, again. So I think he’s just learning how to deal with those kind of stretches. The one area he was not shooting enough, and when he had the opportunities, he missed the net a lot too. So it’s a little bit of a combo, I’d say.”

Marco Sturm on Pavel Zacha’s impact on younger players:
“Yeah, a lot, because Pav is one of the veterans. He’s one of the leaders. He’s one of the better players. So I think it’s the way he is off the ice, too. He’s very, very calm. And I think that’s what he shows sometimes on the ice too, or a lot of times. But just making those reads, making those plays maybe in a heated moment. We’re really happy just to have him, and yeah, it was probably not his best game today, but again, those big moments are big moments for us.”
“And if you see that as a young kid, daily, I think there’s something to it. And that’s why I think our team has been progressing really nicely. Even after a few years ago, when they traded everyone away, is because of those kind of guys. They kept the core together and allowed the young guys to grow, and Pav is one of them.”

David Pastrnak on James Hagens:
“He’s smart. He’s obviously not a big guy, like you said, but for his age, he’s very smart around the net, and even the goal in Dallas, that’s even more impressive than today, I feel like, with outmuscling the D over there. Like I said, fun to watch and seeing him every game being more comfortable and it’s up to us to push him and be here for him and help him every day.”

James Hagens on matching up against Celebrini’s line:
“It’s special. It’s a great feeling to be able to be out there and, you know, trying to stop those guys from scoring. You want to do your best and you want to win games, and if that’s your role then you got to be able to go out there and do it. It’s definitely cool being able to, you know, these players I grew up watching and especially last year, being in college, I was watching these guys. Now you’re out there trying to stop them all night long.”

Casey Mittelstadt on matching up against the Celebrini line:
“I mean, obviously, he’s a heck of a player. I think we all know that, and he has good players around him as well, but I think a lot of that credit goes to Lindy (Elias).”
“Lindy does a heck of a job in all three zones. So, you know, me and (Hagens) are there to support him and help him when he needs it. But thankfully, I don’t think he needs it that often.”
