Friends, I could really use your help. This contest has just opened up for public voting and y'all are my best bet. Given that I keep getting turned down for jobs I could do with one hand behind my back, winning this would be a big boost. Please share! yoursuperdad.org/jared-garre…

First, I wasn't expecting this degree of reaction, so thank you to everyone who has been touched by this story. Second, it was brought to my attention last night that this photo has some AI adjustments, which I hadn't seen. Sorry, I didn't realize my niece used a tool to remove people-which I should have. Third, I write books and am currently in a Super Dad contest which I am not willing to spend money on to buy votes. But you can vote every day, if you feel like supporting me and my family in this. yoursuperdad.org/jared-garre…
About ten years ago, we took in a rain-bedraggled girl who had befriended our daughter and been over to our house a few times. We fed her, warmed her up, and got to work getting to know her. A few months later, after she was pulled from the house she and her drug-addicted mother lived in (with several other addicts), we tracked her down and brought her in as a foster daughter. About a week before Christmas. She was 13. The aim was to help her be safe and healthy and happy while her bio-mom tried to get clean. Again. Her bio-mother died of heart failure several months later. Before long, we were talking about adoption and began the process. We finalized adoption right before she turned 15. The next years were challenging. That's all I'm going to say about that. But two days ago, I officiated her marriage to her good lad. She's come a long way. Proud of our daughter.

Reminds me of a time on my mission when we went to go clean an old man's house. He'd had a stroke a couple months prior, and his family (who lived across the street from him) weren't taking care of him. The little shack he lived in was covered—and I mean absolutely covered—in garbage and feces. To date, it is one of the nastiest things I have ever seen. We wore full body scrubs and face masks, and we sanitized the heck out of our PPE. But everyone that came to help was gagging hard. At least one church member threw up. And once we got through the layer of garbage down to the feces-encrusted mattress that he'd been sleeping on, we found beneath it a dead Centipede. This wasn't some cute little millipede that you find out in your garden. It was a big old terrifying monster with pincers and venom that would make you miserable in eight different ways. And it was lying dead under his compressed mattress. The most galling thing was that his family came out onto the street to complain that we were doing this. That they could take care of him just fine. They were letting him live in this squalor, but what we were doing was offensive because it brought to light just how negligent and wicked they were. We didn't say anything to them. What was there to say that wouldn't result in hands being thrown? But I think the takeaway is that sometimes there's an elephant in the room. It's big, it's annoying, but it needs to be addressed. And other times there's a centipede under the mattress. It's venomous, it's dangerous, and it's rotting. But it still needs to be addressed all the more, even if you have to go digging through someone else's garbage and feces to do so. Not because you want to, or because it's easy, or because it's fun. Or even because someone asked you to. Because it's right.

Thanks @USPSHelp for sending my $300 package from Missouri, to Kansas City, to Dallas, to Oklahoma City, (supposed to go to Las Vegas and then Utah) and then losing it. It was scheduled to be here on the 16th and I was just notified today you can’t find it. Thanks, @USPS

The Book of Mormon was the instrument that Heavenly Father used to convince me that Jesus is the Christ and that He is my Savior. He uses it to this day to draw me closer to Him. I love this book.
The Book of Mormon is a great witness that the Lord loves all people and reaches out to all, everywhere. The Book of Mormon adds to our knowledge of how our Savior’s earthly ministry reached out to all of His scattered flock. Book of Mormon teachings contradict the erroneous assertion that the grace of God saves only a chosen few. The Book of Mormon teaches that our Savior "inviteth ... all to come unto him" (2 Nephi 26:33). His grace is for all. Similarly, the Book of Mormon tells us that the children of God in “every nation” have His promise that He “manifesteth himself unto all those who believe in him, by the power of the Holy Ghost” (2 Nephi 26:13). These promises from the Book of Mormon are true. I call upon all to act on these truths and to share them with others, that we may all draw closer to Jesus Christ, our Savior.

If you want less housing that costs more, create long permitting wait times. Governments don’t need to create costly new programs to subsidize housing. They need to stop spending years deciding whether Americans are allowed to build.

When people refer to “ethical porn,” they’re usually talking about porn that allegedly guarantees that performers are over 18, that they’re being paid fairly, that they’re not being abused, and that they’re giving fully informed and enthusiastic consent. But that’s impossible to guarantee as a viewer…. Consider this quote from a survivor: “I didn’t know if they were going to kill me. Watching the video now, I can see it in my eyes. The quivering of my lips and my voice, I know exactly how I was feeling in that moment. But to anyone else who sees it, they see what they want and they think I was complicit.” Refuse to support exploitation. Say no to porn. I'm chuffed to see that the absolutely awful Cash for Clunkers program that Obama touted as a great way to help the environment is being outed as a singularly terrible government-here-to-help-but-actually-to-make-things-worse example. It destroyed tens of thousands of perfectly functional cars. It did nothing positive for the environment, especially in light of the extreme waste it resulted in. It left the used car market utterly unstocked and even now we're dealing with the effects of that. A 2010 Hyundai Accent with 147,000 miles is simply NOT worth upwards of $4k. No chance. Thus, it was bad for, you guessed it, the lower and middle classes. That's right! A government program made things worse. Again.

This is sad and frustrating, of course, that AI is being used so indiscriminately by students in a way that really robs them of important learning experiences. That said, it 100% does not preclude the students from doing long-form pieces. In fact, in-class writing is a perfect opportunity to help students focus on each element of a longer-form writing assignment. Practicing thesis sentences for a week followed by practicing good intro sentences to body paragraphs, and so on and so on, is a great approach to longer form writing in which the writing is actually done in the classroom with the teacher doing real-time coaching.
Sobering article. Teachers feel they must limit writing assignments to classroom time, to combat AI cheating. The downstream cost: students aren't being asked to do longer-form writing anywhere. "Now she limits essay writing to the classroom, by hand, where students have little opportunity to develop longer, more complex arguments. The result, she admits, is that they may be unprepared for college-level writing. Even her best students’ “eyes would fall out of their head,” she said, if she asked them to write an eight-page paper. Her solution ensures that kids do their own work, but it may come at a cost. They lose the long, messy practice of learning how to compose at length and, some argue, how to think."

Here’s what Call Her Daddy won't tell you: a growing share of marriages today go the distance. The “trade up” mindset @alexandracooper & @SophiaBush are pushing is an outlier, not the norm. Divorce is down nearly 40% since peaking @ 1980 & each new cohort of married couples is more stable than the one before. ☑️ Boomer couples who wed in the ’70s/’80s: @ 50% will divorce ☑️ Couples who married in the 2010s+ are on track to do far better That's because--for better and for worse--marriage is getting more selective & more durable.
"Call Her Daddy" host Alex Cooper & actress Sophia Bush: if a woman is questioning whether she can do better than her current husband, "the answer is always yes." "This idea that it's too late or you're too old, or who are you to want more, that's patriarchy. That is crazy."
