Knowing he was facing a tough Midterm election, @POTUS ordered @GOP govs and legislatures to take the extraordinary step of mid-decade redistricting to redraw congressional lines.
This effort to rig elections in his favor failed spectacularly.
TX and FL were the hub of the plan.
But of the nine seats the Rs hoped to pick up between the two states, they gained just one.
Meanwhile, in CA, which, led by Gov. Newsom, voters approved a remap in response, and Dems picked up five seats.
And the @GOP efforts also inflamed Black and Hispanic voters in the South and Southwest, hiking turnout and Dem voting.
In Texas, the governor who dutifully launched the remap wars lost in a stunning upset. The state house that affirmed the plan turned blue for the first time in more than two decades.
For Republicans, Trump's gambit was an unmitigated disaster.
