Kids are tuned out. Parents don't support teachers. Grade inflation is rampant. The result is an illusion that kids are learning and are well-prepared for the future.
NYC public schools deceived me into thinking my son was a straight-A math student — but he can’t do fractions, basic algebra. Read today's cover here: trib.al/Xesuvi2

We are literally doomed American High School English Teacher reads real responses from her student’s assignment after reading The Great Gatsby We have a serious education issue in America and if we don’t address it, we have a horrible future ahead of us These kind of responses are to be expected because 12th grade reading results in 2024 in America showed that reading levels right now the lowest they’ve ever been since the assessment began in 1992

Even without a parent sitting in an office until a grade is changed, teachers feel pressure to minimize poor grades. Hence grade inflation. Anxious parents and students with limited attention spans are interfering with students building grit and determination in school.
🚨WHAT ON EARTH?!! A Nashville TEACHER OF THE YEAR walked away from her career because she says the district ORDERED HER TO FABRICATE A STUDENT’S GRADE. She refused, so they went into the system and CHANGED IT THEMSELVES. According to the teacher, a student didn’t finish a project so Hardcastle (the teacher) gave the grade the student earned... a failing grade. Then a parent came in and SAT IN THE OFFICE FOR HOURS until that grade changed. Three administrators huddled up and decided the AWARD-WINNING TEACHER was the problem. She still refused to change the grade. So they overrode her and changed it ANYWAY. She quit in May and put all of it in a three-page resignation letter. It’s public. Read it yourself. She calls it GRADE FABRICATION. And then she stood up in front of the school board and said the quiet part into a microphone: ā€œStatistics are being skewed to protect the district, not our children.ā€ Our kids can’t read. Can’t write. Can’t do basic math. ...but the SCHOOL METRICS LOOK GREAT. AND SHE IS NOT THE ONLY ONE. WSMV4 Investigates pulled the internal emails of Diana Wills, a math teacher at Overton High. Administrators told her she had to give FAILING STUDENTS a PASSING GRADE because she "hadn’t notified their parents first..." She put her refusal in writing: ā€œWhat is being done is unethical and could very well be interpreted as illegal.ā€ THE DISTRICT SUSPENDED HER. She’s suing them right now. At MNPS, when a teacher and an administrator disagree about a grade, THE ADMINISTRATOR WINS. Not the person who taught the class. Not the person who graded the work. The bureaucrat whose numbers go UP when your kid passes. HOMESCHOOL YOUR KIDS!!!!!

You know what keeps me up at night? Knowing that no matter what we uncover about Donald Trump’s involvement in the Epstein files or colluding with Russia, he won’t live long enough for the American people to get any kind of justice. He’s already won the game because he’ll never see a jail cell and he knows it. That should keep every honorable American up at night, too! FDT and every single supporter!

We were concerned that the SAT has become a less reliable measure of student preparedness for a rigorous college curriculum. So, we commissioned a study from Johns Hopkins University. What does this study tell us about the state of higher education? The results are shocking. thaq.co/4iLThZ0

Billionaires mentioned in the Epstein files have donated $705 million to the Republican Party. Just in case you were wondering what it costs to cover up a criminal pedophile ring.

If true, these numbers are more than concerning; especially if we have some sort of major crisis in the U.S.
When politicians convince you that a tiny minority is a greater threat than poverty, homelessness, and unaffordable healthcare, you’re not witnessing leadership. You’re witnessing manipulation.

Trump wants to play the role of peacemaker while fueling chaos, division, and dangerous confrontations. You don’t get to flirt with disaster, put lives at risk, and then demand a Nobel Peace Prize.

This is honestly shocking. Three months ago, Hong Wang was awarded the Fields Medal for resolving the Kakeya conjecture in three dimensions. Today, OpenAI released a proposed proof of the conjecture in ALL dimensions. And that’s not all. It also announced a proposed existence proof for quantum chromodynamics and a proposed refutation of the Exponential Time Hypothesis. Experts say that, if confirmed, these would be Nobel prize and Turing award level discoveries respectively. A journalist just asked me: ā€œWhat remains for humans to do?ā€ I think it’s becoming increasingly clear that more and more problem solving will be automated. But humans will remain crucial in determining the direction of discovery. Deciding which problems are worth solving. Because the value of a discovery depends on our needs, our priorities and the kind of world we want to build. There will be a shift from problem solving to problem setting. I also think there will be huge individual differences. People with strong critical thinking skills, creativity and imagination will be supercharged by AI. People without those skills risk surrendering to it. I’m particularly concerned for children, who may never develop these skills. I think epistemic literacy - how to distinguish information from knowledge - is the single most important skill we should be teaching.

Maybe it is time for free market schools ...
"during the last school year, a council of educators at both Palo Alto high schools rejected the [advanced math] course, arguing it would serve few students and set back equity and students’ well-being" Right, math is harmful. Come on! What are we doing? ā€œIf teaching math can harm students, then we have a lot bigger issues to talk about than whether to offer this course,ā€ Nguyen told the Chronicle. Indeed. Brian Conrad, a Stanford mathematician, told the Chronicle that he felt math was treated as a ā€œpunching bagā€ for equity and mental health concerns. ā€œThe school doesn’t cut sports teams simply because some kids are far more talented at sports,ā€ he said. ā€œWhy is it that the teaching of math generates much more controversy than other subjects?ā€ sfchronicle.com/bayarea/arti…

"We estimate that Mr Trump’s policies will cost the poorest tenth of American households, with average income after taxes and transfers of around $37,000, almost 3% of their income. The richest tenth, with average after-tax incomes of nearly $500,000, will gain nearly 3% (see chart 1). Households in the middle, with average income of roughly $100,000, lose more than $400"
