Chris Norris spent 24 years in the Navy and more than a decade inside DEVGRU’s Gray Squadron, the Vikings, the maritime mobility arm that puts SEAL Team 6 on target and gets them off it. He was not a BUD/S SEAL. He was a Seabee mechanic who showed up at Dam Neck in 2000, worked the trucks and trailers first, then the boats, and in 2003 went through a selection and training pipeline alongside SEALs and EOD. Two Seabee mechanics started that class. Both finished. He became a high-speed boat captain, a military freefall jumpmaster, and a Master Training Specialist, then spent years as direct combat support: jumping in with the assault force, holding rear security, driving the craft that most people never think about until the raid is already over. 24 years, retired December 2021, more than 18 years sober after alcohol use nearly wrecked the same career that built him. He later earned a summa cum laude bachelor’s in human services and a master’s in social work, then built Cognitive Fitness Coaching around mindfulness, recovery, and the habits that keep operators alive after the uniform comes off. Husband. Father of two. Lives in Chiang Mai. Gray Squadron does not get the movie. They get the boat to the beach and the boat home. Norris was one of the men who made that look routine.
