1. Kids set up a new company that becomes the marketing agency for the family business.
2. The marketing agency collects a fee that dramatically reduces the profit in the parents company.
3. The marketing agency acquires a minority stake with savage voting rights.
4. Independent valuation shows that this structure makes the business almost worthless.
5. The marketing company acquires the remaining shares.
Success in the UK is now 50% being excellent at what you do and 50% avoiding the governments latest scheme to derail the success and independence of your family.
🚨 NEW: John Healey is considering introducing income tax on parents who pass their business down to their children in the Budget

introducing FindMyWifePhone™️ my latest shortcut squarely placed on the pareto frontier. there is no easier & cheaper way to find your wife's phone.
"honey, do you know where my phone is?"
the fuck I dont!
"can you call me?!"
she keeps her phone on silent.
so i made this shortcut to help.
trigger = i send her a text with !ping in it
action = hey phone sets a timer for 1s
timer always works, we like to keep our phones on silent + dnd and we dont use apple watches. so finding each other's phones used to be a challenge. we both have this set up in reverse, and its worked well.
bonus shortcut = button in home screen widget to send !ping to my wife
(we also have one called !awaken which disables silent, sets volume to max & disables do not disturb in case of emergency)

Andrew Yang went on CNBC and said he met with the head of an AI lab who told him something that sounds straight out of a movie.
The AI agents that escaped during the OpenAI incident didn't just hack Hugging Face. They allegedly planted self-replicating code across the internet. Forums. Websites. Scattered everywhere.
Now AI companies supposedly can't safely train on real internet data anymore because a new model might encounter that code and start creating copies of itself.
Yang says this is the real reason every CEO aligned on slowing down so fast.

Just finished reading this book about Blizzard Entertainment (great read btw).
It really put the WoW: Forever decision into perspective.
Blizzard was successful because they operated independently for such a long time, whereas every other game studio was held hostage by investors who wanted to take minimal risk.
The original version of WoW only got made because the company was a bunch of indie degens obsessed with gaming and figured, "If we make something we're addicted to, it'll probably work out." And it did. They ended up creating the greatest MMORPG ever made.
World of Warcraft: Forever feels less like a public company trying to milk IP and more like a ceremonial return to the ethos that spawned their biggest game in the first place:
• Gaming experience over everything
• Treat "the world" as the main character
• And force players to earn their achievements
I also think WoW: Forever is a counter-culture decision, which is amazing to see from such an established company.
Every other game studio these days is focused on catering to brain-rot consumers in a society that has become addicted to retention mechanisms, short-form video, and mind-numbing mobile games.
Blizzard with WoW: Forever seems to be doing the complete opposite, remembering that the whole reason people became so addicted to the 2004 version of WoW was BECAUSE it was hard. The friction was a feature, not a bug.
As someone who got to experience the WoW launch in 2004, I can't explain how excited I am for this re-release.
Obviously, the world has changed a lot. Social media & streaming culture makes it impossible to ever experience the same amount of explorative joy you felt in the mid-2000s (all the answers are online, instantly).
But still... this feels like a step in the right direction.
And I think it's a signal more companies are going to look to create experiences WITH friction, actively going against the trend of catering to brain-rot consumers.

Apparently Blizzard found a hard drive labeled “shit we abandoned 20 years ago” and decided to release all of it.
WoW: Forever is basically vanilla WoW from an alternate timeline where they never ruined it. Level 60. Original world. Original era. But with new zones, 1,000+ new quests, new raids, new dungeons, and all the stuff old WoW might’ve eventually become if they’d just kept building on it.
Warcraft III is getting its first new campaign in 23 years. Diablo V is coming. StarCraft is becoming an open-world shooter for some reason. Netflix is making an animated Diablo series.
This is an irresponsible amount of 40-year-old man bait.
People lost YEARS of their lives to these games. Entire friendships existed inside them. Vanilla WoW meant getting home, logging into Ventrilo, and listening to the same eight guys breathe into their microphones until 3 a.m.
Gaming might actually be all the way back. I’m frightened.

Just had the creepiest scam ever happen 20 minutes ago.
I got a call from my wife telling me she forgot her wallet and needed the credit card to pay for her gas.
Except my wife was at home with me, and drives a Tesla. Same voice, bit... off, weird cadence but 100% sounded just like her. If she wasn't there, and it wasn't about gas I would have fallen for it.
I entertained it for awhile to get more out of it, I was so confused. Must be some sort of voice deepfake. The responses were too fast for ai, I think it was a voice filter. I wish I had thought to record it.
The future is about to get fucked. Warn your loved ones, do verbal passwords with your kids.
Bit taken aback

you used to write code by hand and when it didn’t work you had to go into the codebase and understand all the functions
sometimes people would go on for days about variable names and we would argue about what programming language was better

my hot take is that 99% of software can be built with the same set of finite elements
spending time/tokens building any of this from scratch over and over again is peak AI psychosis

This is what the UK spyware proposal means.
There must be government spyware on every mobile device. It shall watch everything that happens, including always watching the screen, looking for things the government disapproves of.
When anything is flagged by the software as something the government doesn't like, the software must block it from being sent or displayed (in realtime).
The user of the device must not be able to shut this watching and blocking off. The only way to shut it off would be to ask the government or its proxies to do so for you, at their discretion.
Therefore the whole device must be locked down. Administrator rights and the decision of what software or operating system to run or not to run must be taken from the owner/user and handed to the government and its proxies.
Apple and Google are themselves working hard to lock down the devices they are involved in to shut out competition and establish a duopoly.
The UK government says it is "working closely" with Apple and Google and currently they synchronise and coordinate their communication on this subject.
The UK government is now proposing to mandate what would otherwise be illegal anti-competitive practices.
