Yesterday, MCW held an Installation Ceremony welcoming our new Dean of the School of Graduate Studies Dr. Daisy Sahoo!
Dr. Sahoo joined the MCW faculty in 2007 as an Assistant Professor of Medicine and has since held several leadership positions at MCW, including serving as the President of the Faculty Council from 2020-2021 and has been significantly involved in graduate and medical education. Dr. Sahoo has also been nationally recognized for her work studying how the circulation of cholesterol in the body affects cardiovascular disease.
We look forward to your continued leadership and contributions to the MCW Graduate School!

Ultimately, our data support a direct Fis1-Drp1 interaction, in which the Fis1 arm may (via a kinetic effect) occlude the binding site. This interaction promotes mitochondrial fission and suggests the yeast and human proteins are more similar than previously thought. (10/10)

New Hill lab publication from @kanolden and @M_Cleland out in @jbiolchem investigating a long-standing question in mitodynamics in which they show that human Fis1 directly interacts with Drp1 to promote mitochondrial fission! jbc.org/article/S0021-9258(2…
Excited to share that my thesis work and the latest from @Blake_Hill_Lab in which we found human Fis1 maintains an evolutionarily conserved, direct interaction with Drp1 is now out on JBC! #mitochondria jbc.org/article/S0021-9258(2…

The discoveries by Katalin Karikó and Drew Weissman – awarded the 2023 #NobelPrize in Physiology or Medicine – were critical for developing effective mRNA vaccines against COVID-19 during the pandemic that began in early 2020.
Through their groundbreaking findings, this year’s laureates have fundamentally changed our understanding of how mRNA interacts with our immune system. They have contributed to the unprecedented rate of vaccine development during one of the greatest threats to human health in modern times.
