That's fair. Yet until LHders have full control of their 🏢 - even if an MA remains contracted - buyers of NB flat leases (yr2k on) are now aware of unpredictable SCs, reserves + fees. Big developers & FHdrs cooked their golden 🪿 as 🏢 defect costs were passed down the line.

We've seen what Russell Brand did. Now let's see what his lawyers did to stop us finding out.

I hope people take @DanNeidle up on this.
Everyone says Russell Brand silenced his victims for years with legal threats. Let's see those threats. Lawyers will keep silencing victims and journalists in the shadows until we expose what they're doing.

Yesterday was the 8th monthly auction for my #buildingsafetyscandal flat, 1 viewing, no bids, guide price 40% below 2012 price. Nobody wants a 2 bed, 2 bath flat close to Uni/city centre @angelarayner for £60k, you truly have a crisis, even with CSS funding and insurance claim.
I’ve been forced to become a leasehold landlord to move on with my life. I’m squeezed by service charges and tax. I can’t sell my lease, and Labour aren’t helping LH as promised. Disgraceful.

Tribunal makes waves by ordering Urban Splash to reimburse the taxpayer for remedial works, causing nervous ripples amongst other developers looking to challenge remedial works bill. This win sends a clear message that consistent threats of a reduction in the development of new homes, if charged, won't save them. @FT ft.com/content/f78e2adb-59b1…

Complete lack of transparency from sellers and agents about ground rents, and service charges.

Why is there a moments hesitation let alone any sympathy for any company being made to clear up it's own mess when it comes to building safety? Fixing defects should come much faster especially from those who have billed the tax payer for the work in the first place.
FT (£) Manchester developer ordered to pay £46.5mn cost of post-Grenfell repairs. A property tribunal has ruled against Urban Splash, co-founded by Tom Bloxham, finding that most of the costs of fixing defects should not be borne by the public. ft.com/content/f78e2adb-59b1… via @ft

Anyone noticed how Managing Agents and Freeholders go remarkably silent if caught out. Hard to get a reply at the best of times, virtually never reply to a criticism or allegations of service charges irregularities. Relying on the passage of time to fix the issue.
Funny how Labour continues George Osborne’s crackdown on mom-and-pop landlords, but won’t tackle the real fat cats. Freeholders impose service charges at organised crime levels, hurting renters and leaseholders and helping collapse the flats market.

I‘ve lived in a shared ownership flat for over 20 years. I own 50% of my flat and pay rent on the other half. We pay 100% of all repairs. They want £40,000 to renew the lease. We have gardeners that never turn up but, were charged an additional £130 for gardening last month😡

They’re not what people think at all. Unfortunately we’re led to believe they’re like consumer rights but they’re not. They’re a contract that needs enforcing through the courts if the provider decides so. Most people can’t afford to make substantial claims on their warranties.

“Treating others how you want to be treated is known as the Golden Rule, a foundational ethical and moral principle found across many global cultures and religious traditions.” Much of humanity now scoffs at this Golden Rule. “What is right” is now just “What is right for me”.

As a reluctant leasehold landlord, it feels like this govt has some special vendetta against leaseholders. -Paying ground rents until 2068. -Perverse taxation regime against trapped accidental landlords -L’hold reforms long grassed. @UKLabour are a huge disappointment.
.@UKLabour betrays the people for the cartels. It breaks its promise to end the leasehold scam, subsidises super-rich developers via Help to Buy 2 and backs murky Build-to-Rent outfits. This makes even Trump, who says homes are for people, not corporations, sound sensible.

Feels apt so many years after Grenfell and failed government interventions.
The report into Hong Kong's Wang Fuk fire has been published - less than a year after the blaze which killed 168 residents. It tells a damning story of private sector greed, public sector negligence, staggering incompetence and blatant corruption: peteapps.substack.com/p/it-c…

Perhaps a little worse than the UK, but only a little (from the journalist who did the best job covering Grenfell).
