Ibn Mahdī said: “al-Thawrī (Sufyān) is an Imām in Ḥadīth and is not an Imām in the Sunna. And al-Awzā’ī is an Imām in the Sunna and is not an Imām in the Ḥadīth. And Mālik (Ibn Anas) was an Imām in both of them.” | Tartīb al-Madārik, by al-Qāḍī ‘Iyyāḍ, vol. 1, p. 155.

What al-‘Umaysān is saying here is really not accurate. The Twelver Shī’ites don’t hate Jirbīl nor do they believe that he was supposed to give the message to ‘Alī and wrongfully gave it to Prophet Muḥammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Such beliefs were held by a very old sect that doesn’t exist today.

Response to @AfgSunni and His Likes بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم According to this brother, one must follow the “explicit narrations” of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and he tried to back it up with a quote of Shāh Ismā’īl al-Dehlawī. The response to this is in two ways: 1 Citing al-Dehlawī condemning taqlīd would be like me citing another scholar promoting it. So the brother must provide a good reason as to why we should take the words of Shāh Ismā’īl al-Dehlawī. 2 Imām al-Bukhārī narrated with his chain from ‘Abd-Allāh b. ‘Umar (may Allāh be pleased with them both) who said: “The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, ‘No one should pray ‘Aṣr except in Banū Qurayẓa.’ Thus, the ‘Aṣr time had reached some of them while on the way, so some of them said, ‘We shall not pray until we reach it (i.e. Banū Qurayẓa)!’ And others said, ‘Rather, we shall pray (on the spot), he (the Prophet) did not intend that (i.e. the apparent).’ This was mentioned to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and he did not scold either of the two.” | Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, 4119. The statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was “explicit” in this context — “No one should pray ‘Aṣr except in Banū Qurayẓa.” But yet this did not prevent some of the companions from interpreting this ḥadīth in a way that differs from the ẓāhir [apparent] form. Ibn Baṭṭāl explained why the other group prayer ‘Aṣr before reaching Banū Qurayẓa and said: “Because the meaning of it according to them was that this was the case as long as they did not fear that the ‘Aṣr time would run out.” | Ibn Baṭṭāl’s Commentary on Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, vol. 10, p. 353. So my question to brother @AfgSunni and other non-Madhhabists, why didn’t these companions simply take the “explicit” ḥadīth at face value? والحمد لله
