Papers and their owners have every right not to endorse as a matter of principle.
To announce one is doing so 10 days before a razor’s edge election with vastly distinct candidates and huge stakes for the nature of democracy is a different beast altogether.
The Arizona Republic decided to stop making endorsements years ago. It was the right call then, should have happened earlier, and other papers should have followed their lead in an era of declining media trust.
