Cheques in Pakistan are about to stop traveling between banks. 📊 🏦
From October 15, the State Bank will begin rolling out the Pakistan Express Clearing System, where banks exchange cheque images electronically through NIFT instead of moving paper.
It starts with a pilot at selected institutions, extends to all participating banks by December 31, and is due to reach nationwide coverage by April 30, 2027.

Khalid Riaz, Saudi oil giant Aramco’s partner in Pakistan and a prominent oil businessman close to PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, is paying Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja Rs3 million a month as rent of two empty plots.
The CEC receives the amount as “rent” for “two properties”. However, a recent FactFocus investigation found that both properties are vacant plots overgrown with wild weeds, bushes and untended grass, with no sign of construction or business activity.
