What did the media get wrong about the tragedy at Ole Miss? Almost all of it. If you know of more fictitious posts from the media please submit. This is well worth reading. Bottom line, most everything the media claimed was wrong. Time to fix the record!

Senator, “all kratom is deadly” simply isn’t a serious way to discuss this issue.
I’ve consumed kratom for more than a decade, advocated for testing, age restrictions, accurate labeling and responsible regulation, and watched Congress spend years failing to create meaningful federal standards.
Raw kratom leaf, concentrated extracts, 7 OH products and newer manufactured derivatives should not simply be treated as though they are all the same thing.
Protect kids. Regulate the market. Enforce age limits. Require testing and honest labels. Fund the science.
But fear based claims and prohibition are not substitutes for good policy.
I wrote about why here -

🌿 KRATOM HISTORY FACT:
For centuries, laborers in Southeast Asia traditionally chewed kratom leaves or brewed them into tea to help fight fatigue and endure long days of demanding work.
But some people have no interest in understanding kratom, not its history, not the people who have relied on it, and not the experiences of responsible adults today.
They hear one frightening headline, repeat it as fact, and demand prohibition. They don’t ask questions. They don’t listen. They don’t research. They simply decide that their fear matters more than someone else’s lived experience.
You don’t have to use kratom. But before condemning millions of people who do, you should at least be willing to learn the truth about it.
Ignorance should never be the foundation of public policy.

MASSACHUSETTS KRATOM UPDATE THIS IS IMPORTANT.
Massachusetts DPH has now issued a Legal Advisory clarifying something advocates need to understand.
Yes, 105 CMR 726 still places kratom in Schedule I and allows local boards of health and municipalities to remove kratom products from retail establishments. That emergency regulation took effect August 28 and can remain in place for up to one year.
BUT the state’s own new advisory specifically says the regulation “has no impact on criminal enforcement of substance abuse laws.” It also states that kratom is not classified as a Class A, B, C, D, or E substance under Massachusetts law.
That distinction MATTERS.
This does not mean the emergency order disappeared. Retail sales are still being targeted, and local authorities still have enforcement power against establishments. But the state is now acknowledging an important legal distinction that was not clear in the original messaging.
Meanwhile, S.3198 the bill that would REGULATE kratom instead of simply banning retail access is still sitting in Senate Ways & Means. It includes things like 21+ sales, labeling requirements, registration, and regulatory standards.
Massachusetts lawmakers: MOVE S.3198.
Regulate responsible businesses. Protect consumers.
A blanket emergency approach was never the answer. 🌿

UPDATE: North Dakota Gov. Kelly Armstrong has signed HB 1628 into law.
Natural Kratom remains legal for adults 21+ under new testing, labeling & licensing requirements.
7OH above the legal threshold and synthetic derivatives including mitragynine pseudoindoxyl, MGM-15 & MGM-16 are banned.
The full Schedule I Kratom ban failed.

For some people, the fight over kratom isn't about defending a plant. It's about defending the life they're still able to live.
I wrote about my own experience with Meige syndrome, chronic pain, disability, veterans, and why regulation makes more sense than simply taking access away.
When something helps make the difference between participating in your life and merely enduring it, losing access feels very different.

NORTH DAKOTA: Gov. Kelly Armstrong wanted kratom banned “in all its forms.”
The House just said NO.
After the Senate pushed SB 2408 through 46–1, the House rejected the blanket-ban approach.
Meanwhile, HB 1628 passed the House 86–6 with an actual solution: 21+, licensing, testing, labeling and retailer accountability.
Regulate the products creating the problem.
Protect consumers.
Stop criminalizing responsible adults.
Governor Armstrong asked for prohibition.
The House chose common sense. 👏🔥

BREAKING: The American Kratom Association filed a federal lawsuit today challenging the potential misapplication of the DEA’s new temporary Schedule I order to natural kratom.
cdn.prod.website-files.com/6…
The AKA is NOT challenging the scheduling of mitragynine pseudoindoxyl, MGM-15 or MGM-16 themselves. The concern is whether the DEA order could also be used against natural kratom products containing incidental or trace amounts of pseudoindoxyl.

🚨 This is much bigger than “DEA scheduled three synthetic drugs.”
Starting Wednesday, possession of ANY quantity of mitragynine pseudoindoxyl (MP) becomes federally unlawful even to POSSESS as a Schedule 1 drug.
Here’s the nightmare: MP can form naturally through kratom chemistry. Mitragynine can form 7-OH, and 7-OH can rearrange into MP during handling, shipping, and storage.
That means basically ALL KRATOM products except MG001 (mitragynine pharmaceutical drug) will be illegal. And definitely all 7-OH and MP alkaloid proudcts, because they cannot be made without trace amounts of MP.
DEA created a zero-threshold Schedule I rule for a compound that can form spontaneously in kratom products.
I warned HHS and DEA about exactly this problem in July.
This order is a regulatory disaster.

The DEA used misleading and deceptive evidence to justify the banning of concentrated 7-OH kratom products. The nationwide ban could go into effect within days, even though the evidence to support it is anecdotal, at best. bit.ly/4xPW34s

MASSACHUSETTS KRATOM ADVOCATES NOW IS THE TIME TO SPEAK UP
Massachusetts has announced an emergency order temporarily placing ALL forms of kratom into Schedule I, including traditional botanical kratom. 🌿
The order has a 14-day notice period before taking effect, so Massachusetts residents need to make their voices heard NOW.
Please be respectful, factual and tell your personal story.
📞 1. CONTACT GOVERNOR MAURA HEALEY
Governor's Constituent Services:
617-725-4005
Massachusetts toll-free:
888-870-7770
Tell the Governor you oppose placing traditional botanical kratom into Schedule I and ask the administration to reconsider or narrow the emergency action.
🌿 2. CONTACT THE MASSACHUSETTS DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH
Commissioner Robbie Goldstein
Massachusetts Department of Public Health
617-624-6000
250 Washington Street
Boston, MA 02108
Ask DPH to distinguish traditional botanical kratom from concentrated/high-potency 7-OH products rather than treating every form of kratom the same.
🏛️ 3. CONTACT YOUR STATE REPRESENTATIVE AND STATE SENATOR
This is EXTREMELY important.
Massachusetts residents can use the state's Find My Legislator tool to find the representative and senator who actually represent their address.
Call AND email them.
Tell them:
“I am a Massachusetts constituent and I oppose the emergency Schedule I designation of traditional botanical kratom. I support responsible kratom regulation, including age restrictions, testing, labeling and manufacturing standards. Please protect access to traditional botanical kratom and support regulation rather than prohibition.”
🌿 Massachusetts already has lawmakers working on legislation concerning kratom regulation. This is not a choice between doing nothing and banning kratom.
We can support:
✅ 21+ sales
✅ Independent testing
✅ Accurate labeling
✅ Manufacturing standards
✅ Consumer protections
✅ Appropriate limits on concentrated/synthetic 7-OH
WITHOUT criminalizing traditional botanical kratom.
MASSACHUSETTS RESIDENTS: Your voices matter the most right now.
Don't send threats. Don't attack officials. Don't make outrageous claims.
Tell your story. Be respectful. Be persistent. Ask for REGULATION instead of prohibition.
We have 14 days before this emergency order is set to take effect.
🌿 PLEASE SHARE THIS WITH EVERY MASSACHUSETTS KRATOM CONSUMER YOU KNOW.

Mac, your fentanyl analogy makes the argument for regulation, not prohibition.
You’re warning about street dealers, unknown products, addiction, and consumers being exposed to increasingly dangerous substances. That’s literally what prohibition creates.
If 7-OH is dangerously potent, regulate potency. If labeling is deceptive, mandate accurate labeling. If manufacturers are irresponsible, regulate manufacturing and testing. Restrict marketing. Set age limits. Hold bad actors accountable.
But banning it while demand still exists doesn’t eliminate the consumer. It eliminates the legal supply chain and hands that consumer to the exact “street dealers” you’re warning us about.
You don’t defeat a black market by creating one.

Massachusetts update 🌿👀
S.3198 a bill to regulate kratom was reported favorably out of committee yesterday and sent to Senate Ways & Means.
Read that again: REGULATE. Not ban.
There’s a huge difference between regulations for kratom and politicians trying to wipe it off the shelves entirely.
Adults deserve access. Consumers deserve standards. Small businesses deserve clear rules.
Regulation > prohibition. Every. Single. Time. 🌿

This is pretty much where I land. Adults are going to make choices about what they put in their bodies, and prohibition has never magically eliminated that. Give people standards that actually reduce harm: accurate labeling, independent testing, reasonable age restrictions, responsible marketing, and honest information about risks. Regulation gives us tools to make products safer; prohibition mostly gives us tools to punish people.

I have Meige syndrome, which causes involuntary facial and eye spasms. I've noticed that when I drink kratom tea, the spasms sometimes ease and my facial muscles seem to settle down. I can't say kratom is treating the Meige syndrome itself, and there really isn't research showing that it does. My best explanation is that kratom's alkaloids affect several pathways in the nervous system that can influence pain, muscle tension, and nerve signaling. Whatever the mechanism is, for me the noticeable effect is that my facial spasms can become less intense for a period of time.
