the voice that asks "is this the best use of my time" is fear dressed as productivity. the good stuff doesn't show up on a time. it shows up when you followed something interesting for no reason at all

fuck this is so real. the instagramification of my mind has made it hard to even appreciate simple things like going for a walk in the park, my reticular activation is trained to only see shiny sexy things and drown out the little stuff that really matters spending too much time online you become the digital panopticon and lose all sense of subjectivity in the world

Had my friend @kylejunlong on the pod to talk about masculinity. Masculinity as a topic always feels so spicy to talk about, didn't realize I had as many thoughts as I did. Links below!

reading LLM text is genuinely so fatiguing that it’s much easier and more fun now to read rambly stream of consciousness run on sentences

Talk to a top-tier creative and chances are, you’ll be blown away by how prolific they are in their consumption: The musician who listens to 10 albums a week, the designer who’s visited antique stores in 57 countries, the architect who’s living room is stacked with piles of reference guides, the writer who’s read 1,000 novels, the filmmaker who watches 400 movies per year. The method varies, but the core pattern stays the same… it’s constant consumption, day after day.

Someone saw Cormac McCarthy in an elevator and asked him for writing advice. He said to read a thousand books for every one that you write.

Startups are obviously not the same as the military, but I believe this new era of building companies will feature CEOs who want to change the world with "Seal Team 6" (tight, small, elite company) rather than "The Navy" (lots of headcount, bureaucracy). AI and other tools will unlock high-performers to do even more. Cultural bonds will be even stronger in these companies that may always stay below Dunbar's number, even when doing 100s of millions in revenue.

just a heads up since a lot of ppl are giving diet advice in this thread: the most important thing is figuring out what works for YOU. some people thrive on low/zero carb. some like vegan, low fat, others prefer walking 20k+ steps/day or just focusing on 1-2g protein/lb of bodyweight (me). getting advice will always have an individual level of survivorship bias because we all have different preferences and biology. it's why the diet industry exists - there's no one-size-fits-all. experimenting with a few hypotheses is the best way to fine tune what works for you. (also- don't love everything hormozi puts out but here's great a video that explains why all diets work: youtube.com/watch?v=RpqSy5V1…)

i generally think advice is overrated, but there's some bangers in here that i wanted to remind myself of: 1. post something online every day. 2. DM cool people with common interests. 3. build a nest egg - something with stable MRR to fall back on, “ramen profitable.” 4. learn to cook a few staple meals. 5. craft a living and breathing mission statement. it’s okay if you change this. 6. create a list of energy drainers and givers. things and people. update it every three months. 7. work with people you look up to. 8. create a story bank. collect stories, anecdotes, insights… and share them. 9. it’s okay to start from zero. life is a game of starting from zero many times and climbing back up. 10. be kind, trust your gut, work hard and you’ll do well.

funding secured it’s been real SF you forget how much you can get done in 24 hours in this city 1 day is 1 week here and for the last two weeks we’ve been holed up in a chinatown wework as we made our pilgrimage down market street for graphed .com - The AI agent for marketing analytics we talked to 59 people and now it’s time to go back to building we launched Graphed 90 days ago and did not expect the response we got 1000 signups in the first 30 days from purely organic channels, no paid ads at one point we had to turn off free trials bc we couldn’t afford the AWS bill the problem marketing teams face to do simple analytics is such a bigger problem than we realized you would traditionally need a data engineer / data scientist to build: >data pipeline >data warehousing >data ontology >data visualization just to get insights Graphed does all of this the ontology is the most important part of what we’re doing we understand the underlying data source and build context for our agent so the human user needs zero data literacy to get insights it's also critical to relate everything to the business outcomes that drive growth, so our agent can search the web to do the research it needs to create insights the teams need here's the customer profiles we’re having traction with so far > founders: birdseye view of their whole orgs data > marketing teams: KPI reporting > marketing agencies: client reporting > ecommerce teams: ROI measurement > product teams: product analytics endless calls make the why now so obvious agents are finally smart enough to understand the ontology of the data necessary to write code, and data pipeline / warehouse is relatively solved we’re removing all the constraints for technically adjacent people to get insights and do their job better every single person we've talked to about this has had polarizing beliefs either they 100% agree how obvious it is that someone is going to build this or they dogmatically tell us this is the wrong thing to be building and that we’ll be another one of the 1000+ dead bodies that exist on this path this bipolar view has given me 100x more conviction we’re building the right thing if no one cared, I would be extremely worried and my cofounder max chehab and I are the ones to build this max was first engineer at WorkOS, second engineer at Hightouch, and first engineer at Rupa Health and data analytics for growth marketing is the shadow government controling my life we met at Rupa Health and we're there from day 1 of meteoric growth we've seen what it takes to build unbeatable products and teams and for the last 3 years we have been building AI marketing products together trying to find the product with the right biology to be big this is the thing back to work
im in SF the next two weeks raising for graphed .com we'll be here until October 24th we launched Graphed 90 days ago and the response has been insane at one point we had to turn off free trials because we couldn’t afford the AWS bill we didn't realize how big a problem this is that marketers are currently facing the marketing insights stack is severely broken marketing data is siloed in places like Google ads, Facebook Ads, Amplitude, Hubspot, RevenueCat, Supabase, Sendgrid, Stripe (the list is endless) it takes a technical person to build the data pipeline, the data warehouse, and connect the data to a BI tool for visualization and the BI tools people use right now like Tableau or Power BI or Looker Studio have a massive learning curve, it can take months to just get competent we're solving all of this we make it so marketers can get data insights with no technical setup and zero learning curve > we handle real-time transfer and syncing (ETL) > we manage and optimize the data warehouse > our AI agent can build charts, dashboards, and reports to provide insights in the first 30 days we got 1000+ signups we booked 90+ demo calls when we ran a two week test of signup > book discovery call our signup to free trail start is 40% our free trial to paid conversion rate is 20% all of this growth is from my personal owned media zero paid so far we have traction with > founders: birdseye view of their whole orgs data > marketing teams: KPI reporting > marketing agencies: client reporting > ecommerce teams: ROI measurement now is the time to build this AI agents are good enough to write the code for data visualization which makes insights data transfer and sync has been solved data storage is cheap and efficient incumbents can’t do this, they would need to fundamentally change their product's biology for this technology to work if you're in SF and work with early stage i want to meet you

close friendships are not built on adventure and excitement but rather a deep mutual understanding of each other's suffering. good vibes and fun times are like alcohol: a good social lubricant but impotent in building real depth on its own. true intimacy is forged in fire
