Students in Serbia persevered in the face of a growing crackdown on dissent and inspired broad support across the country. Now the recent snap elections show that people are eager to vote for principles over personalities.
The Student List now holds the majority of seats in Serbia’s parliament following a record voter turnout. The protests that led to this historic change reflect the resistance taking place across Europe, where people are demanding their rights - including standing up for improved housing, education and economic conditions.

Whoever said the 2028 Democratic presidential candidate should run on extraditing Zuckerberg to Lula’s Brazil deserves an award.

After letting a few private career colleges rip off the OSAP system with impunity, the Ford govt used the scam as an excuse to cut OSAP grants for all students, accusing them of wasting money on “basket weaving courses” & “fancy watches & cologne” thestar.com/opinion/contribu… #onpoli

David Graeber explained that one of the ways that Neoliberalism functions is through hopelessness.
Kill our hope until we think there is no point anymore.
Lula's amazing victory shows there still is hope. We should never give up!!!

🚨Breaking: Police have confiscated Presidential loser Flávio Bolsonaro’s passports so he can not flee to the US and evade justice like his brother did.
His baseless demand to annul the election has also been thrown out by the Electoral Court.🚨
Socialists from across the city are especially ecstatic seeing the long deserved win of @chipadovani
A socialist who's gone above and beyond for renters and families in our ward has just been elected in YSW! Congratulations @chipadovani!

this is why our coverage of Bradford's Islamophobic endorsers matters. he showcases support from prominent Muslims, but also from prominent folks who direct hate at Muslims
btw peep the comments to see how some of his online supporters feel about Muslim endorsers
I'm grateful to Imam Ismail Ulghar for calling from his Umrah pilgrimage to offer his blessings and making dua.
Imam Ismail is a well-known Islamic scholar in Ontario and across Canada, and his kind words about our campaign and our shared commitment to building a better Toronto for everyone are deeply appreciated.

Presidential loser Flávio Bolsonaro’s parliamentary immunity expires in February when his Senate mandate ends.
He is under several serious criminal investigations.

Shoutout to Diana Chan McNally for overcoming all the bullshit. first renter to be elected to city councillor, has been THE frontline worker for Toronto's homeless population.
The city is better for it with her in council.
One in every ten Brazilian voters joined a single pro-Lula chat group, "Lula’s Army," in the three weeks between the first and second rounds.
The unprecedented act of digital organizing, led by @AndreJanonesMG, brought together more than 10 million voters.
This POS billionaire tech bro who wants to take away the votes of poor people and pensioners was defeated tonight.
Lula’s come-from-behind victory over Flávio Bolsonaro is one of the most dramatic and unprecedented achievements in all of Brazilian history — and it would not have happened without the mass mobilization of millions over the past few weeks. jacobin.com/2026/10/brazil-e…
Is it too soon for me to start saying @chipadovani for mayor in 2030?
Replying to @LukewSavage
Huge congrats @chipadovani for finally ridding city council of Frances Nunziata, to @DianaCMcNally for her decisive win in Parkdale-High Park, and to my dear friend @DavenportBravo for crushing it once again.
Yesterday in Brazil, fascism was defeated. Today in Toronto, the far right was defeated in the mayor's race.

🇷🇸 🚨 BREAKING: Serbia's Aleksandar Vučić has conceded defeat to the student-led movement that has spent nearly two years in the streets trying to oust him.
"Based on the sample, it is clear that we have lost these elections," Vučić said at his party's headquarters. He put the Student List at about 2.2 million votes to 1.72 million for his bloc. That works out to 130 to 140 of parliament's 250 seats, a clear majority. Official results are pending.
Vučić has ruled Serbia as prime minister or president since 2014. In that time his party took over state institutions, and he was accused of muzzling critical media. He resigned the presidency last month to run for prime minister.
The movement erupted in November 2024, after a newly renovated train station canopy collapsed in Novi Sad, Serbia's second-largest city, and killed 16 people. Students blamed corruption and rallied behind the cry "Pumpaj," Serbian for "pump it," meaning keep up the pressure.
REPORT | Tens of thousands of people from across Serbia are marching to Belgrade for what is expected to be a massive demonstration against the government of President Aleksandar Vučić. Serbia has seen sustained, almost daily, protests for months since November when a train station roof collapsed in the second largest city Novi Sad, killing 15 people. Protesters have blamed rampant corruption for the disaster and since then the protests have swelled with many demanding the resignation of the government, which they denounce as a fundamentally corrupt institution.
Vučić has vowed to use force against the protesters in Belgrade tonight and groups of his supporters have also taken up positions in Belgrade, raising fears of violent clashes. Journalist Dušan Čavic (@sedamdeseti) co-host of the popular YouTube show @MarkaZvaka, is covering the demonstration for Drop Site.
