Thankfully we know lots of academics that do avoid air travel. @steviedubyu @StuartBCapstick @izzdebizz to name but three.
Academic culture needs to change. Offering rail travel instead of air is good – but needs to be implemented/promoted/taken up.

Our response: yes, carbon information should be given at time of booking, but should be compared to other transport modes (not just other flights) to give the full picture.

Modern upstairs sleeper Roveinami Helsinki. Actually the Turkish sleeper compartments I’ve been in are larger & more comfortable when sitting up.I found the fixed ladder difficult. The basin swings to cover the loo & reveal the (decent) shower: so loo first then wash as it’s wet!

And the recipe for good living: seek recreation that is low-carbon and high-joy.

There is no time to delay designing policies to deal with non-CO2 ✈️
But while there is general consensus that more research is needed on non-CO2 from aircraft, the EU’s attempts to get airlines to provide the full picture is hampered by delay tactics.

As a climate scientist, I find important to live a life that is as coherent as possible with my messaging. I don’t travel by plane for holidays, and use public transport in Europe unless really impractical. Today was the first leg of my trip from Brussels to the IPCC meeting in Sofia (Bulgaria), through Vienna. #ClimateEmergency #SlowTravel #NoFlying #LowCO2 #coherence @IPCC_CH
