I hope I don’t witness anyone casually degrading their fellow man and generally acting like a remorseless toolbox today she says as she logs in at X the remorseless toolbox factory.
There are real people with real families behind accounts here. This is wonderful and often leads to people being able to support and care for each other in community. Assistance should always be direct and meaningful. We don’t take just what we know from online circles and wield that as a weapon against someone without connection first. We are not cannon fodder for ideological commentary. Be reasonable. We aren’t living breathing memes. It’s not a soap opera. Be adults.
There are people who care about Shay close to her that are ready and willing to help her. People deeply care about her on the ground not just online. Somehow everyone in Alaska is simultaneously more remote and more connected than many folks are used to. She’s got people to rely on should she choose to do so. See the thing about Alaska is that we try to respect each other’s crazy to the extent we are able to do so without allowing someone grievous harm. We are also viciously protective of those who need our help. So the state is full of people who are willing to let eccentrics be eccentric, but also who will answer a cry for help in roughly 18 seconds. Hell most Alaskans will defend people they don’t even like. If she puts up the flag of distress it will be answered swiftly by those with the capacity to do so. If she chooses not to do so her choices will be respected. So it’s her call if she finds herself in a bad situation or not. She’s a grown woman. If she finds herself in a situation she deems acceptable she’s perfectly able to live her life on her own terms.
So I leave it at: just say the word if you need additional support
It takes me roughly three minutes to find mutual friends in this tiny vast state and be like hey go tell her you care about her lol. It would take Shay the same amount of time to do that with me. We are all neighbors here. I swear if I went to the moon right now I’d find a friend from Nome under a moon rock. It’s both awful and comforting how life is here.
If J demanded a second wife I’d accidentally pop open every home canned jar of bear meat in the pantry and let God and botulism determine his fate every night at dinner. If God declines to protect you from the perils of meatloaf and gravy that’s between yall two.
What we allow for ourselves is what we foreshadow for our daughters. Would you allow this for your daughter? Is this her life? Her future? You pave the road for your daughter. Where does that road lead?
This will end badly. I am very concerned for the welfare of the children stuck in this situation. As moms we are responsible for protecting our children even when it breaks your heart to leave. There will be no excuses when this goes bad. And it will.
That’s how cults work. I am absolutely ready to be the whole problem. Say the word. When you’re ready, I’m ready. Stop eating off paper plates sitting in a dimly lit cold room with a baby at the breast being told nonsense by a lunatic. The moment you’re done you can be done. Your daughters don’t have to live like this.
Options for women in bad situations in the region. You are worthy of better.
