Patients Safety has been increasingly compromised in the NHS due to your actions in your years as Health Secretary @Jeremy_Hunt - from the ground work you laid for Dr substitution with Noctors in GP & EDs to installing Massey in GMC to capture independent medical regulator
Hugely welcome news for patient safety that plans to abolish HSSIB have been dropped. The APPG for Patient Safety has worked hard to oppose these proposals. Particular thanks to @bernardjenkin for his tireless efforts to protect independent patient safety investigations.

I am a medical student at KCL, all of the GEMs and now newly appointed HEMs have a background in nursing, paramedicine and PA. Each and every one has said Y1 of medicine has superseded their competence and is finding medicine a surprisingly difficult degree.

The moral injury from working in a constantly under-resourced, under staffed badly managed service where hard work& expertise is not recognised, where systemic pressures makes frontline staff make errors with devastating consequences to pt You either stop caring or leave 1/n

Just reflecting on this as recently learnt of 2 of my acquaintances, who were most enthusiastic about working in NHS, put lots of extra work to improve care for their patients in early years of true career being so disillusioned that one has left UK& other is leaving Medicine 2/n

!typo My word, a TACP, who couldโ€™ve been trained for less than two years, is paid well to do a job that only a doctor should do. : it's unsafe. Patients will suffer delayed or inappropriate care. NHS efficiency/productivity will โฌ‡๏ธ Patients will avoidably come to harm or die.

That job description is direct pathway to consultant. Not accountable they aren't regulated for advanced practice are they

This is ideological nonsense. Clinical lead....??? Also - if this is a clinical, non-nursing, non physio/OT (insert other AHPs) role then it's bot only unregulated...but why do they report to a matron? This is not a nursing role?

Why is a little educated healthcare worker, one that cannot safely do this job, being paid such a high salary to take a doctor's job that ordinarily and historically requires a very highly educated doctor in order to be safe?

tACP who may have only graduated in nursing, physio etc 2yrs, so little experience,do part time MSc in โ€˜advanced clinical practiceโ€™then as ACP used autonomously to triage/assess referrals to lung cancer team,history/clinical assessment, diagnosis& initiation of treatment plan!!!!!

The perfect response: โ€˜As a paramedic, ACP seemed sensible in our small team. I chose GEM instead. Now I see poor ACP assessments, referrals and needless tests daily. Even GEM year 2 exceeded their competence. Saving money? A costly, potentially harmful delay before seeing a GP.โ€™

There are so many non medically trained practitioners acting as Doctors it is wise to ask. Unless you aren't bothered whether people looking after yourself and your family have medical qualifications.?

I've had a locum nurse practitioner at my surgery be silent about their qualification, and I thought I'd seen a GP, told me I had septic arthritis (I didn't, it requires hospitalisation and IV antibiotics) and sent me off with a packet of antibiotics and no follow-up. Outrageous

Anyone working outside their competence based on their training - is a quack . Well said @parthaskar If I tried to work a shift as a nurse or an FY1 Dr , Iโ€™d be a quack too. Why do others think that itโ€™s ok to work as a Dr substitute without MBBS & PG training & exams?
Replying to @Gerogrios
anyone working outside their competence based on their training- is a quack. I would be one if I tried doing a session as a physiotherapist. Or a GP. Or a Podiatrist. Hope that helps. Be more worried about safety & death than my tweets.

@DHSCgovuk wanting to regulate private aesthetic practitioners & clinics (not a bad idea) whilst NHS Trusts who they themselves are responsible for using medically unqualified & unregulated people practicing Medicine & Surgery in the name of advanced practice @karinsmyth
.@karinsmyth visited Dr Leah Clinics to see how cosmetic treatments being carried out the right way, by qualified professionals in a safe clinical setting. Meanwhile, our crackdown intensifies on cosmetic cowboys - with new proposals to: ๐Ÿฉบ restrict high-risk procedures to qualified health professionals ๐Ÿšซ ban cosmetic surgery and other treatments for under-18s โš–๏ธintroduce unlimited fines for rule-breakers
