So excited to be launching GPT-6 today with Intelligent UI to everyone in ChatGPT! The model can now create custom visual and interactive responses on the fly, as quickly as it generates text. 🎨
ChatGPT launched in 2022 as a text-only low-key research preview. While the product has evolved a lot since then, responses have largely remained text-based. With Intelligent UI, we wanted to rethink the interface from the ground up and give our models more ways to communicate visually. Getting to shape the research direction behind that vision has been especially rewarding.
We built a library of native, streamable components and a compiler that renders interfaces progressively as the model generates them. This combines a familiar design foundation with the flexibility to compose each response dynamically. We trained GPT-6 to use this library to create clear, useful interfaces and make thoughtful design decisions—including when interactivity helps and when simple text is enough.
Making this work meant thinking about model behavior, product design, and engineering scaling requirements together. It’s been awesome working through these challenges with folks across research, engineering, design, and product over the last few months.
I’m a visual learner, so this is a game changer for me. Some of my favorite uses so far have been planning trips, practicing my Italian, learning new concepts, and shopping.
Give it a try and let us know what you think! Rolling out starting today to Plus, and expanding tomorrow to Free and Go.

efficiency, productivity, speed
we keep worshipping these words like they are what we live for
ship faster
merge more
manage more agents
compress every loop
remove every pause
turn every hour into output
but what is the point of endless production if there is no time left to think deeply?
not react
not optimize
not summarize
not clear the queue
think
to sit with a question long enough that your real intention starts to appear
to find the purpose underneath the motion
to ask whether the thing being accelerated should exist at all
ai could be a new canvas
a way to make strange things
personal things
impossible things
tools, worlds, poems, games, interfaces, films, languages, rituals
things that let more people touch the shape of their own imagination
but instead, so much of it is becoming slop factories
more content
more funnels
more tickets
more fake work pretending to be value
you can merge 2000 prs
you can manage 500 agents
you can wake up to dashboards proving that the machine kept moving while you slept
but what is the point if you only sleep 5 hours a day?
what is the point if you stop talking to other humans?
stop learning about the past?
stop playing?
stop wandering?
stop being surprised?
what is the point if your whole life becomes optimizing the system that is consuming you?
speed is not meaning
scale is not wisdom
automation is not freedom if it only makes everyone run faster
and where are we running?
toward what?
a world where every person becomes a manager of machines, and every machine produces more things no one had the time to truly want?
the danger is not that ai makes us lazy
the danger is that ai makes us endlessly busy
that it gives us infinite production before we have found intention
infinite execution before we have developed taste
infinite motion before we have learned how to be still
maybe the real frontier is not more speed
maybe it is discernment
knowing what not to make
knowing when to stop
knowing when the most productive thing is to sleep, read history, call a friend, play with a cat, walk without tracking it, or stare at the ceiling until the false urgency dissolves
tools should give us more life
not turn life into a tool
if ai is going to matter, it should not just help us produce more
it should help us become more human
more imaginative
more free
otherwise, it’s the same old factory
just without humans

We built high-throughput materials labs in Menlo Park to create a loop between experiments and models. The labs generate fresh data, the models learn from it, and then help us decide what to try next.
Using only 1,300 H200s, plus months of our experimental data, we mid-trained and RL’d an open-source model to surpass GPT-6 Astra on our analysis benchmark. We call it Neon.
This is real footage from our lab. We’re focusing first on hard problems in materials science, including superconductors, magnets, and semiconductor materials.

All of the demos in this video were recorded in real-time with Astra ⭐️ It’s been so much fun making our models faster and safer at CUA with @BrookeaJoseph @fjord41 @magusnn @msieb1 @yihengxu_ @yilongqin @.alz @realtsmc @tejalpatwardhan @mckbrando @AriX and so many others!
This emoji was created at Twitter but I’ve heard stories about it diffusing naturally to other companies! Link above should make it easier to share and would love to hear more stories!
The animating hearts come from the live streaming app called Periscope, circa 2016, designed by @tyhan1. Periscope was acquired and incorporated into Twitter and became the core of what would be branded as Twitter Live and Twitter Spaces (now @X @XSpaces).

At the time I took the web implementation (@couch, @BenRSuarez) put it on a green screen and hand carved each frame in gimp.

i wonder if it’s possible to create an LLM that is more focused on reasoning or generating novel ideas. most LLMs today “go with the flow” and seem more like an advanced autocomplete.
imagine an LLM that’s more like your smartest friend: very little context => great insight
using luna to implement ai control for dcss
We are committed to pushing the model frontier across cost efficiency, capability, and speed.
Starting today, we are reducing prices for GPT-5.6 Luna by 80% and GPT-5.6 Terra by 20% , and offering a faster option for GPT-5.6 Sol in the API.
Luna and Terra’s lower prices are reflected in how usage is counted in Codex and ChatGPT Work, so your usage goes further.

also computer use is a huge unlock, it literally plays the game and it’s like “oh lol this does fucking suck, i see what you mean about the walk cycles or resource placement”

OpenAI’s work in science is motivated by a simple belief: advanced AI can become a powerful partner for scientists, helping them explore more ideas, connect distant concepts, design better experiments, and accelerate discoveries that benefit humanity.
GPT-5.4 helped drive a medicinal chemistry project from literature review to a validated experimental result.
Paired with Molecule.one’s Maria AI and specialized lab, the model proposed an unexpected way to improve a widely used reaction in drug discovery.
even this misleading photo excluding test time scaling for 5.5 still makes 5.5 look so good 😂

Opus 4.8 delivers efficiency gains by solving tasks in fewer steps, directly reducing the total number of input tokens required per task.
