Three years ago I had a conversation with someone who made this observation. In hindsight, that person had insider information.
The telecoms-cum-fintechs are building a credit system. They have the data points to build a credible one. Soon they are going to start giving us scores which you will see pinned in your mobile money wallet, and that number will determine your credit limit and overall credit worthiness.
Very soon, if you don’t utilize mobile credit, it’s going to be very difficult to buy anything or access a credit facility. These telecom fintechs are on course to become bigger lenders than commercial banks.
We are witnessing in real time the rise of financial slavery and consumer culture.
