So, a French soccer player has offended the CCP, by calling Mao a dictator. He even put his face on Mao's body
Mao was not only a dictator, he was the biggest mass murderer in history. Killing 80 million people
Mao should not be revered, but reviled like Hitler

Extreme sensitivity around this topic. @dfat officials won't even tell Estimates if they've received a request from Taiwan to open a Perth trade office. They hint request is likely to be denied ("appropriate to advance through offices already in Australia") but no real clarity

My latest report is out today! New investigation finds CCP control embedded across China’s organ transplant system. We found 19 cases of transplant surgeons or center directors who are CCP members across 12 provinces. Raises serious questions about claims of reform. @ETAC_Global
ASPI's Head of China Investigations and Analysis @BethanyAllenEbr joined @abcnews to discuss Chinese ambassador Xiao Qian's criticism of ASIO, the CCP's foreign interference and espionage activities, and what the ambassador's remarks mean for 🇦🇺–🇨🇳 relations.

Chinese ambassador rejects FI accusations: so there's nothing to see when agents of CCP tries to use economic coercion to force the NSW Premier's office to block out certain independent Australian Chinese-language media; there's nothing to see when the Chinese consulate or their agents threatens local councils on who they can or cannot have attending or sponsoring local festivals; there is nothing to see when provincial Chinese governments threaten local Australian businesses on which Chinese media they can advertise with; there's nothing to see when threatening calls or letters are sent to outspoken critics of the CCP on Australian soil; there's nothing to see when Chinese government officials demand a Sydney hotel to remove a newspaper they deem against CCP interests; there's nothing to see when united front associations hire bus loads of Chinese people to block out and tear down banners and protesters against the CCP in Canberra; there's nothing to see when a WA government owned premise deliberately refuse to host cultural performances the CCP does not like due to coercion or influence from CCP agents....not to mention the numbers of actual cases convicted. Should I go on?

A schoolgirl in Guangdong,#China accidentally dropped her weekly allowance of 200 yuan
A woman picked it up and refused to return it,
The girl, who lives with her grandparents while her parents work in another city broke down in tears and begged on her knees to get her money back
In which the @abcnews Insiders panel suggests that in the Trump-Xi summit the US wanted China to open the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for allowing China to take over Taiwan.
One of those horrifying glimpses into the machinery of Australian public and media discourse.

Australia: What has happened at the PRC embassy in Canberra? No English-language website updates since 1 April and only a 14 April reported interview with XIAO Qian on Chinese website

Penny Wong speech disrupted by Chinese officials attempting to remove Australian journalists. So much for a show of "conprehensive strategic partnership" from China's side 🤔

Typical CCP carrot and stick approach. They will reward the government/party that supports (or have a softer attitude towards) them; vice versa, the party that is less friendly gets the stick. This is exactly what happened to the Liberal vs Labor government in Australia. The CCP wields trade as a political weapon.

New: Beijing's Foreign Influence Tactics, Hidden in Plain Sight
My latest piece is a rundown of key takeaways from recent reports by tech firms and policy researchers, outlining emerging tactics being used by the CCP and its proxies to shape foreign opinion and silence dissidents—including via paid social media influencers, fake LinkedIn profiles, and fabricated U.S. government documents.
According to OpenAI's latest report, a PRC user linked to Chinese law enforcement referenced “over 100 tactics” that had been developed to manipulate narratives and to silence, discredit or intimidate CCP critics. I highlight six, but two dynamics run through all of the examples in the article: the sheer scale of the operations and a consistent emphasis on obfuscation.

Are "liberal values" all that binds Australia together? Or are there some ethnic, linguistic, and cultural components which need to be preserved for it to be still the same nation?
One of Iran's soccer player initially granted asylum by Australia appeared on Iranian state TV saying Australian police were asking strange questions (2:47), as if we scared her off from seeking asylum. Seriously? This is really playing into the hands of Iran's propaganda machine

Beijing isn’t just participating at the @UN; it’s working to reshape it.
Our recent @ChinaSelect investigation found a systematic campaign by the Chinese Communist Party to expand influence through funding, personnel, and peacekeeping deployments tied to its strategic interests.
From surging financial leverage to embedding officials in key roles, the CCP is bending multilateral institutions to serve Beijing, not the global good.
The U.S. and our allies must lead with transparency, accountability, and strength to defend the integrity of the international system.
