Change is afoot. And it’s not all good.
It’s not where I am politically, but what’s happening at the #DailyTelegraph (100 posts cut) is another sad day for the British media. Some good journalists, and other staff, getting chopped. AI cannot replace that knowledge and expertise, however advanced it is.
Even as a #WestHam fan on the receiving end of that decision, I do NOT want VAR in the Championship. Absence of VAR - which is flawed and inaccurate anyway - is one of the best things about the Championship. Games flow, and it generates better atmospheres. No thanks. @henrywinter
Shocker of a decision. There will be calls for VAR in the Championship after that. West Ham’s Tomas Soucek puts in the perfect sliding challenge, stretching out his right foot to nudge the ball away from QPR’s Paul Smyth. Brilliant interception, played the ball, outside the box anyway, ridiculously punished with a penalty. West Ham been poor, but that was an even poorer decision. #WHUQPR

Both Ince and Defoe were badly advised. Ince was going after Lyall was sacked-everybody knew it. But any agent with half a brain would know NOT to pose in another team’s shirt until you’ve moved. Defoe’s agent should have advised him to be patient after relegation. Fools saw £££.

Great trip, that. The least said about the night before the game, the better! We were taught a lesson on the pitch, though: their midfield completely over-ran us. Think we went 2v3 in the middle and paid the price.
Don’t doubt you’re right. Seems the plot was known. And those intel officers (and others) work relentlessly to protect the public. But there are still some Qs about public safety that need answering - in good time.
There are still some perfectly Qs to ask about the seeming 51-minute discrepancy between the “00:45” call to police and the “01.36” call made by the farmer. Why were police not visible in the village until after the farmer’s call?
I’m quite sure most of this is true, @LouiseMensch, given everything that’s been said. However, there remains (at this stage) a key Q over whether those who knew about the plotters did enough to ensure the village (and villagers) remained safe - and not just the base 3km away.
Sorry but this is nonsense. As President Trump said and multiple locals around the base reported, the terrorists were under surveillance for weeks by both UK and US intelligence. Preparations were made around the base in the prior days for a bomb attempt by vehicle. These Iranian contractors were always going to be arrested and stopped. Before MI5’s Fast Horses could move in, a local lass saw them and called the local police. local police would not have been read in to MI5 surveillance. So these Iranian-tasked morons were tracked by both intel and local police.
Now, you might be asking, if they were under surveillance, why didn’t the intelligence services move quicker? And the answer to that is when you know who the terrorists are, you prefer to have them under surveillance until the last possible moment so that you can see and log anybody that they talk to, anybody that they socialize with, anybody that they get money from, and in that way, you try to roll up a larger network than just these assassins; that is the reason for the wait.
this lady did a wonderful and patriotic thing when she called 999, and the intelligence services had these men under surveillance already, as confirmed by POTUS, both things were true at the same time. And don’t worry about this useless Labour government. The intelligence services don’t give a damn what politicians are in Whitehall. They protect us and attack the enemy regardless of politics.

That’s partly b/c football easily surpasses combined attendances for rugby union/league, league, cricket, athletics & cycling. It’s a million ppl every weekend. It’s a more visceral sport, and still w/c. Also a lot safer now. Stop sanitising it. Don’t like it, don’t go.

Haha! Don’t worry, fella: it’s a great show and well worth flagging regularly. Everybody should watch it.

Think you might be a bit late to the party on that one, Olly. It’s pretty much established fact in the UK.

What a keeper Ludo was. Best I’ve seen at West Ham, alongside the legendary Phil Parkes. And at less than £300k he was an absolute steal - even in 1989. Titan. And a really good man with it. RIP.
Serious question @ZackPolanski - when exactly did you live in the constituency of Holborn & St Pancras? Do you have a record of living at the “flat in Mornington Crescent?” More power to you if you did, and I’m sure you’d happily share details with local voters.

“It’s nice that West Ham fans still remember me, and they’ll ask for my autograph. West Ham fans want players who give it everything on the pitch. Even if you didn’t play particularly well, as long as you give it your all they’ll appreciate that.” #WHUFC

It is with deep and profound sadness that West Ham United announces the passing of legendary former goalkeeper and coach, Luděk Mikloško.
Rest in peace Luděk, our beloved, inspirational goalkeeper and gentle giant of a man.
