Congrats to the winners! ANRP helps bridge two communities that advance state of the art with two different consensus processes. A wide-subject and engaging set of nominees this year. One can only imagine the things that 2024 will bring.
Six researchers have been announced as new #ANRP awardees this year for recent results in applied networking research and interesting new research of potential relevance to the Internet standards community. Read about the wide range of topics at: ietf.org/blog/anrp-2023/

Helping to widen the conversation on IP blocking. The Internet Protocol was visionary, built on sound principles and experience. By design, IP addresses establish reachability, never identity. IP address blocking does harm, even threatens human rights. cfl.re/3V2rZP9

This week's paper is "The Ties that un-Bind: Decoupling IP from web services and sockets for robust addressing agility at CDN-scale": micahlerner.com/2022/01/13/t… It describes how Cloudflare change its CDN to reduce IP address usage (which turned out to provide many other benefits!)

Looking ahead to post-quantum-safe TLS! Also a reminder that congestion control is subtle, powerful, well-tuned... and still a hot research topic after 40 years. "Respect!"
How much room does TLS have for the big post-quantum signatures? We had a look: it’s tight. cfl.re/3CWVlWW

Today's blog post by @GVasilis and @marwanfayed goes into detail about just how good this guess can be. The results show that Cloudflare has the lowest latency globally of any CDN. And now anyone can validate that claim without running a single scan. blog.cloudflare.com/look-ma-…

This post by interns Nate Sales and Alex Chen explains how we combine our knowledge of the Internet from public datasets with device-reported information to inform other teams at Cloudflare which source IPs are single-user and which are multi-user. blog.cloudflare.com/multi-us…

Happy to share that I worked on these connection coalescing experiments as a Cloudflare intern this year with some amazing colleagues (@SulemanAhmadd, Jonathan Hoyland) and mentors (@grittygrease, @marwanfayed) :)
This is cool. We added cdnjs on the certificate for four thousand sites that use it, and gave them a single IP to see how connections would be reused. We saw 78% fewer TLS connections to cdnjs, which means lower CPU cost and better privacy. Oddly, no clear page load time boost.

Even more from #CloudflareResearch🔬 today. This time we have a deep dive into our paper at ACM SIGCOMM about disentangling the mess of conventions around IP addresses, hostnames, and sockets. Plus, two posts about the future of our "favorite" authentication mechanism: passwords.

The architecture of the Internet is fundamentally changing. Lightweight semi-trusted proxies are being used to add privacy to lower layers. Led by @sudheesh001, we published a paper at PETS this year analyzing how ODoH helps make DNS more private. petsymposium.org/2021/files/…
