What is different about the baffle in our traditional line of smokers? We didn’t want to push the flow up. We wanted to blow it apart. Our baffle design spreads heat and smoke a full 180° wall to wall, eliminating the hot spots. This allows for 100 % use of the cook rack.

People often quote William Shakespeare's 'Richard II' when romanticising England, for very good reason: "This royal throne of kings, this sceptred isle, This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars, This other Eden, demi-paradise, This fortress built by Nature for her self Against infection and the hand of war, This happy breed of men, this little world, This precious stone set in a silver sea Which serves it in the office of a wall Or as a moat defensive to a house, Against the envy of less happier lands, This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England." It is an incredibly beautiful piece of literature and it is here where the quotation usually stops, however the praise doesn't: "This nurse, this teeming womb of royal kings, Feared by their breed and famous for their birth, Renownèd for their deeds as far from home For Christian service and true chivalry As is the sepulchre in stubborn Jewry Of the world's ransom, blessèd Mary's son." This praise unfortunately doesn't last, when it soon becomes a lament. It is here where I find to be the most sobering and prophetic part of the text: "This land of such dear souls, this dear, dear land, Dear for her reputation through the world, Is now leased out - I die pronouncing it - Like to a tenement or pelting farm. England, bound in with the triumphant sea, Whose rocky shore beats back the envious siege Of watery Neptune, is now bound in with shame, With inky blots and rotten parchment bonds. That England that was wont to conquer others Hath made a shameful conquest of itself."

Anniversary today of the battle of Trafalgar, 21 October 1805. Importance was to crush Napoleon's ambitions of dominating the waves, though he crusaded on land on & off, until Waterloo in 1815

Remembering Bela Lugosi on his birthday. One of the best Draculas, if not the best.

"Never has a role so influenced and dominated an actor's role as has the role of Dracula. He has, at times, infused me with prosperity and, at other times, he has drained me of everything." Bela Lugosi, born this day in 1882. - Jamie

Did you know guests once slept in the bed where George Washington died? In the early years of the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association, when the Ladies were at Mount Vernon, they would sleep in the Mansion. But some visits were more frightful than others... Continuing with our #SpookySeason ghost stories, we have an account from 1890: "Of course, the most interesting of all the bedrooms is the one belonging to the immortal George and in which he died. In it is the original four-poster bed whereon Washington passed his last moments." "Mrs. William Beale and a friend of hers spent a night at Mount Vernon. At their own request, they were permitted to occupy Washington’s bedroom. In the middle of the night, they were awakened by the sputtering of their candle." The recent spate of electoral wins by socialists has confirmed the conservative camp’s worst fears. Marxist professors have changed the educated electorate so profoundly that hitherto unelectable socialists can now prevail across the country.wsj.com/opinion/radical-prof…

Putting the #Caps ahead 2-1, Ovechkin becomes the inaugural member of a very specific NHL goal-scoring club that might not mean as much outside of DC. (Credit to the Horn Guy for pointing this out to me at the end of last season.)
