A frosty morning at Blue Hill Observatory! We recorded a low of 31.9°F this morning (10/18), our coldest temperature of the season! The last time we reached 32°F was April 21, when we also recorded a trace of snow.

With the winter season approaching, many will start talking about various teleconnections and oscillations with their prospective impacts on the pattern. I have created a page dedicated to teleconnections and how they can impact patterns. The page also allows you to set various phases of each index to create a composite of a pattern. There is also a historical analog of some winters for comparison. Feel free to check it out and play with it. Hopefully it'll be useful! miltonclimate.com/teleconnec…

It's 5am and just landed in San Antonio for the second time today. You may have noticed we had to bug out shortly after arriving to the storm from Biloxi. A maintenance issue prohibited us from going in, so we landed in TX, swapped to a spare aircraft, and went back out. A 16 hour day, but we got it done. Truly a team effort between maintainers, ground support, and aircrews to make the hurricane hunting mission go.
Heading out to fly Hurricane #Isaias tonight. After dealing with some shear today, convection has begun firing and wrapping around the SW quadrant and an eye is becoming apparent on satellite, indicating another round of intensification is underway. We will probably hit it at its strongest point tonight. We'll recover at Kelly Field, TX where @53rdWRS missions will continue from Joint Base San Antonio.

A beautiful start to the day at Blue Hill Observatory. 🌅 Clear skies and a crisp, cool morning around 6:30 AM, with fog rolling off Ponkapoag Pond below the summit. Some views from Blue Hill simply never get old- and the pictures never quite do them justice.

There is currently a single burst of convection near the center - which is not unexpected for a shallow warm-core cyclone - but given the expected short duration of separation from frontal boundaries & insufficient support for continued tropical transition, it's not a TC.

Thank you!
Replying to @burgwx
A shallow warm core & warm seclusion aren't enough to classify a tropical or subtropical cyclone, however. The February blizzard also underwent warm seclusion with a shallow warm core - and no meteorologist would argue that it was a subtropical cyclone.

#OTD This is our weather journal from September 21, 1938. As the Great New England Hurricane struck, observers documented the storm from BHO, including a 5-minute avg wind of 121 mph and a calculated peak gust of 186 mph. Power returned Sept. 28. Yet the weather record continued.

25 years ago today, observers at BHO recorded the weather as they had every day since 1885. September 11, 2001 was warm and sunny: 79°F, with 94% of possible sunshine. Today, beneath another September sky, we remember the lives lost and all those forever changed by that day. 🇺🇸

After years of researching, I finally have completed my documentary on the 1938 New England Hurricane. I'm certain this is one of the most detailed videos to exist of this storm. Check it out! youtu.be/vTJ6OsuJ9vU?si=zpf2…
