Slavery was an evil in which people from every continent and region participated. We should be honest about the whole history, not select the parts that are politically convenient today, especially given Britain's leading role in ending the transatlantic slave trade.
If Caribbean countries are asking Britain for a formal apology for Britain’s role in the transatlantic slave trade, will they also be asking the same of the descendants of African kingdoms, rulers and merchants who captured, sold and profited from the trade?
On demands for reparations, whether through cash or debt relief, we have been down this track before. Twenty-five years ago, Jubilee 2000, Drop the Debt and Make Poverty History argued that cancelling the debts of poorer countries would give them a fresh start. More than $100 billion of debt was eventually written off, but many of those countries have since built up even bigger debts. Labour are already spending too much on Britain's welfare state, now is not the time for Andy Burnham to be providing global welfare.
There is no reason British taxpayers today should be held financially responsible for things that happened generations before any of us were born. And I have even less patience for political elites in commonwealth countries who don’t know how to make their own citizens prosperous now looking for another opportunity to blame Britain.
As Prime Minister, Andy Burnham should be Britain’s greatest defender. Instead, he is writing articles saying we need to confront our history (as if we haven't done enough of that) and considering another formal historical apology. Tony Blair already expressed Britain’s deep sorrow and regret for our role in the slave trade nearly twenty years ago. There is no need to do so again.
This is all another navel-gazing distraction. The Commonwealth should be looking forward, not endlessly backwards. That means economic partnerships to make us all richer and deeper military and security cooperation against common threats. If every Commonwealth summit becomes an exercise in presenting Britain with demands for cash then we need to start asking if it is worth the effort.

Labour said that growing living standards was one of their five main missions. I have added the red line where they took over.

The electorate aren’t goldfish. Our memories are long enough to recall June 2024, when you declared that trans-identified men with penises should be able to use women’s public bathrooms. It took a Supreme Court ruling to force you to uphold women’s rights, and now you pose as our bold champion? Please.
The time for talk has long passed. This government is putting its money where its mouth is when it comes to supporting women and girls.
We'll back practical action to confine misogyny to the history books - in public services, workplaces, and online.

Foreign students visa to study extended - which means they can claim a bigger loan WHICH THEY WILL NEVER REPAY
Labour are such mugs….
If you suffer from ‘tennis elbow’
Why would that condition enable you to claim a free car on PIP?
We are now up to 900,000 cars supplied by PIP - who on earth does that make sense?

100%. Andrew Neil is a very experienced political journalist with many years experience & also well respected. I totally agree with him, @AndyBurnham is definitely NOT the right person to be PM, Burnham is actually proving that himself.

This is superb by @GoodwinMJ. Absolutely brilliantly stated 🔥🔥
Young British men are being asked to die for a country that spends its time telling them they should be ashamed of it. Their schools and universities train them to see Britain as a racist colonial project that needs dismantling. Their culture is treated as something that only counts when it’s celebrating someone else.
Say you’re English and proud of it and you’re marked as the problem. At the same time the government opens the door to people who have already decided the West is the enemy, and sends billions overseas and into welfare for non-British nationals while the white working-class kids at the bottom of the education system get nothing.
That’s the deal on offer. Hate your own people, watch the state prioritize everyone else, then pick up a rifle when the politicians who built this mess decide it’s time. Most of them have already worked out there’s nothing left worth fighting for.
The guy is a crude chancer
Liar just like Starmer but he’s worse!

An increase to £13.20p/h equates to a minimum wage of £27,456, based on a 40 hour week.
Once you factor in employers NI and basic pension contributions, the MINIMUM cost to hire a 21 year old for a company would be £31,461.
This is before you factor in any overarching business costs like office space, laptops, phone, software, training, support staff, vehicles etc.
This is going to be devastating to SME's who cant put together a simple 12 month budget without the goalposts being moved & their margins squeezed.
It'll also be catastrophic to youngsters opportunities because businesses will simply not be able to afford to hire them.
What's also incredible is that anything above £50,270 is seen as 'high earnings' in the UK and is taxed at 40%!
We are governed by financially and economically illiterate morons.
This will not end well.
Car crash interview. £874 million to get about 4,000 people off the street.
That’s £190,000 each. Buy them a house.
Instead it’s contracts, outreach teams and councils deciding where the cash goes.
Rough sleeping rose under Burnham in Manchester. Now we’re nationalising the failure.

Stand with Alex!
Britain is ruled by a political class that hates the British. Labour puts foreigners first: criminals, terrorists, and illegal migrants, while the British get nothing but lectures and higher taxes.
They recognised “Palestine” after Hamas slaughtered over a thousand Jews. They sanctioned Israel for daring to defend itself and for fighting the same jihadist ideology that is already active on British streets.
They bow to the jihad, abandon Britain’s interests, and chase Muslim bloc votes.
Then they expect the British to stay quiet, accept second-class status, and sacrifice themselves for a regime that betrayed them years ago.
Alex is right.
Do you agree with him? Yes or no?
Alex Armstrong is facing backlash for refusing to fight wars on foreign soil for the people who seized power and destroyed the Britain he grew up in.
Do you support the right of young white British men not to be sent abroad to help Hamas finish the job of genociding Jews and wiping out Israel?
If you stand with him, share this and follow @Alexarmstrong.

Was @AngelaRayner lying, or just ignorant, when she said ‘exports to the EU have fallen 20% since Brexit?’
Why didn’t @bbclaurak challenge her on that?
Triple lock attack is peanuts compared to this public sector pension grab!
£1.396 TRILLION. Let’s let that sink in.
That’s the UK Government’s net public sector pension liability in its 2024–25 accounts.
During the same year, public sector employees contributed £19.5 billion towards their pensions.
These are long-term pension commitments, not an immediate bill, and the figure is after scheme assets are deducted.
But with taxpayers funding public services and the Government facing enormous financial pressures, shouldn’t we be having a much more open conversation about the long-term affordability of these commitments?
Who is explaining the numbers to the taxpayer?

In recent months, the BBC had to get rid of its Director General, head of News and now to pay £400,000 to a 22 year-long employee who made documentaries there. All at least partly because of its anti-Jewish, anti-Israel lies and falsehoods. It had a senior reporter broadcast fake news about a Palestinian rocket attack on a hospital in Gaza and obstinately say he didn't regret it when he was shown to be wrong, and made a documentary which secretly starred the son of a Hamas minister whose family it paid with money from the license fee.
