(1/3) I saw a lot of GDC 2024 advice about rest/health & I gave it a go: I took mid-day siestas either in the park or in my room, I wore a mask as much as possible & washed my hands or used hand sani frequently, I didn’t drink or go to parties & I was in bed by 11pm each night

(2/3) I even scheduled a vacation right after GDC so I had time to recoup & rest incase I ended up getting sick or needing time to recalibrate after the event. Shockingly, I didn’t get sick and I didn’t really need time to recalibrate.

(3/3) GDC was notably more energizing/refreshing for me this year with this added emphasis on self care. I had some FOMO for the night life, but I still got SO much out of the event without that element. I still feel like I ’got my money’s worth’. 10/10 I recommend this approach.

yeeears ago I was reprimanded by a professor for hand-painting over my normal maps to achieve the exact effect I wanted & now it's a revolutionary new workflow. Rather than feeling bitter, I'm actually thankful for this growth/change in perspective because YO IT STILL LOOKS GREAT
Marco Vergantini discussed the production process behind the Mr.Freeze project, explaining how its painterly-like visual style was achieved with a brand-new texturing workflow, dubbed Painted Normal. Full breakdown: 80.lv/articles/texturing-a-s… #art #3D #Maya #zbrush #3dart

This year I broke the rules and put a selfie on my business card because last time the week after I went to GDC I had like 50 business cards on my desk and no idea which business card aligned with which person I spoke to :')

The Centers for Disease Control is no longer recommending that diseases be controlled.
The CDC is no longer recommending Americans to stay home after testing positive for COVID-19, a major shift in policy that comes as much of the country has moved on from the height of the pandemic. trib.al/wpYpdX2

I have never been as hype about an airbnb as the one I will be staying in where I get to share a yard with the host's pet pig, Mango.

I've been thinking a lot about how social justice language has been used in the world around me to bolster what boils down to abusive, controlling behavior but I haven't been able to find the words until reading this article. opendemocracy.net/en/transfo…

6. Choosing to call out some power dynamics while ignoring others Someone who is using social justice concepts to abuse might choose to focus only on the fact that their partner has more racial privilege than them while ignoring the fact that they have more money or education

7. Using oppression to deny one’s own agency. The use of social justice language to attack & dominate intimate partners is based on the compelling, yet deeply flawed idea that experiencing oppression absolves us of responsibility and agency for our own actions, our own lives.
