I, Kevin Rowland (the son of Irish immigrants) and the main songwriter of ‘Come On Eileen,’ am disgusted to learn that Nigel Farage has used our song to make his entrance for his party conference. Myself, and all of Dexys are passionately against Farage’s politics.

Another piece of personal good news. My latest PET CT and MRI scans were cancer free again. Melanoma is a nasty bugger. I’ve already had it come back in my lung, but that was in Jan 24 and after surgery and immunotherapy I’ve been cancer free. Thank you #NHS

You’re a brave bloke, Andrew: why confine yourself to calling Alf Dubs an antisemite in a tweet (as you’ve done)? Why not go to the House of Lords and tell Alf Dubs to his face that he’s an antisemite? Headline? ‘Ex-soldier tells Kindertransport survivor he’s an antisemite’?

The choice is simple. Vote @CountBinface and @Nigel_Farage will NEVER have any chance of being Prime Minister.
End his career... End Reform... Vote Binface!

So if Farage wins, he won against a bin, & if he loses, he lost against a bin.
It’s a bin bin situation.

Hey Incuriam, I asked AI about the kinds of losses incurred by the Labour Party in paying out to the people suing them and paying out in order to sue others.

Whoever came up with this deserves a standing ovation. 😂😂😂
“Stop the bungs” with Count Binface standing on the beach while Nigel Farage rows away in a boat full of cash… satire doesn’t get much better than this.

Labour, Tories, Lib Dems and Greens: I demand you stand down in Clacton. I will be a unity candidate and pledge to build at least one affordable house.
Nigel Farage says he wants The People versus the Establishment. So be it.
Leave him to me.

Count Binface belongs to a proud British tradition – much longer and prouder than any British tradition Nigel Farage can claim to represent – of candidates who exist solely to allow the electorate to express how inadequate they find the other options. Rather than not voting, or voting for someone they don’t actually believe should hold power, the people can send a message that they consider the other candidates so insufficient as representatives that they would rather vote for a man with a bin on his head.
We must unite behind Count Binface, writes @willydunn: newstatesman.com/politics/uk…

In 1468, the King of Denmark ran out of money...
His daughter Margaret was promised in marriage to James III of Scotland. The dowry was 60,000 florins. He couldn't pay it.
So he pledged Orkney instead.
The following year, still short of funds, he pledged Shetland too. He never redeemed either pledge.
Margaret of Denmark arrived in Scotland at around fifteen years old, married a king she had never met, and became Queen of Scots. She brought with her the two island archipelagos that would define Scotland's northern boundary forever — not through conquest, not through war, but because her father needed more time to find the money.
She was described by contemporaries as gentle, pious, and quietly effective at court. She navigated a difficult marriage to a king more interested in favorites than governance. She bore three sons, one of whom became James IV — one of Scotland's most celebrated monarchs. She died in 1486 at around thirty-three years old.
Orkney and Shetland are still Scottish. The dowry was never paid.
Margaret of Denmark is often overlooked in Scottish history despite the significance of what she brought with her. The Norse culture of Orkney and Shetland — the place names, the traditions, the DNA — reflects centuries of Scandinavian settlement that predates Scottish rule entirely. When you visit Orkney today and hear names like Stromness, Kirkwall, and Hoy, you're hearing the language Margaret's ancestors spoke.
