Restaurants closing. Nightlife dead. Everyone watches Netflix shows. These things are related.

Kate Harrison, responding to JP Tasker, turns the focus back home:
“The government has looked to blame our economic situation heavily on the tariff impacts… Just before the comment on the weekend from the prime minister, he had told Politico we were prepared to wait another two and a half years to deal with the tariff dispute. So how can this both be the greatest economic crisis since the Second World War, but also something that Canada is prepared to withstand for another two and a half years?”
Economic reality, Harrison says, is colliding with political reality for Carney @KatlynHarrison

Under Carney the Liberals just out-raised the Conservatives by nearly a million in a single quarter ($4.9M vs $3.9M)—something that almost never happens. Coincidence that everything now requires central Carney sign-off to even be considered?
This is exactly how he always planned to run the GFANZ green project machine: one central decision-maker, everyone else queues up and pays the toll. Projects, permits, appointments, contracts—the whole country has to flow through the Liberal Party now
Grease the palms, get in the room. Same Trudeau-era playbook, volume turned to eleven, now with a net-zero branding department
It’s not governance. It’s a toll booth with better branding @MarkJCarney

'They got money for wars but can't feed the poor!'
That laundered 2Pac line doesn't hold up well in the United States, and is completely fictional here in Canada.

A funny thing you see a lot in Canadian political commentary world is this McCarthy-esque effort to hunt out and denounce people perceived to be using “American” terms, real or imagined.

If and when conservative, right-leaning governments take office in Canada, Australia, and the UK, they should withdraw from the Commonwealth.
Without their participation, the organisation would effectively collapse, bringing an end to what has devolved into a disgraceful, rent-seeking hustle.

Like what is this gaslighting attempt even about? I don't get it
private jets don’t take the same conservative approach that commercial ones do; if they did they would be up to 10x safer
That might be the issue in today Learjet accident I’m told
Get-there-itis seems to be the major cause of private aviation fatalities… I’ve seen this dynamic so many times
One time I watched someone negotiate the number of bags on the plane and I just asked the FBO if they could ups my bags and they were like “we do that all the time for people”
Principle’s spouse was still saying “that’s not necessary we can fit three more bags”
Pilots explained again it was the weight and runway length
I had them send our bags by UPS 😓

Skarsgard did a fantastic job. And I like his Baron. But it is essentially an entirely original character, having very little in common with the personality of the book Harkonnen - a looming evil with almost tangible gravitas, instead of simpering malice of the book.
It's amazing how people just ignore or have not heard of the greatest Harkonnen portrayal of all. Ian McNeice. Intelligent, eloquent, cultured... civil, even. All of which makes his monstrous nature the more repugnant.
Instead of a grunting floating minimalist oil-slick brute because climate change was topical the time or a grunting floating pustulent brute because AIDS was topical at the time. The 2000 miniseries read the book, paid attention to details and was made on a budget of $3.50, 20 zlotys, a handful.of bent paperclips and some slightly used chewing gum.

The biggest give away in all of this is an ethnic genocide supposedly happened and they are making jokes about it. It's now just a punchline for clapter.
Every single one of these people know that an actual genocide never happened.
Michael Che on SNL Weekend Update just said Israel’s record voter turnout is great “regardless of if you’re on the right side, or the left side, or the genocide.”
That’s not a joke. That’s a blood libel dressed up as comedy, broadcast to millions while Israelis just voted in massive numbers after years of war and terror.
This election shows a free, functioning democracy one in which had the highest Arab Muslim Israeli turnouts as well.
Calling the war in Gaza “the genocide” is the same ancient libels recycled for the camera.
Comedy stops being comedy when it launders the same false claim used to justify attacks on Jews.

What's even more "funny" about Canadians is they will praise anything no matter how mediocre it is, as long as they can claim it is Canadian.
Maybe I'm just old fashion, but I don't think we should invest billions of dollars into garbage for the benefit of Canadian insecurity.
Canada is so funny.
We have an aversion to being great.
For non-Canadians, the big news is that our federal government invested $1.6 billion in @cohere, a Canadian frontier AI lab.
And the reaction is so Canadian.
Our culture is so deeply invested in being moderate that when anything in our country starts to make it, we chop it down and disown it.
Then we angst about how our inventions and innovation get overlooked when another country wins in that field.
We do this in tech, sports, entertainment, everything.
Fun fact: In 2011, Drake, the most successful artists in the WORLD of the 2010s hosted our own Canadian music awards, the Junos.
He led with six nominations and went home with nothing.
And Canadians are proud that we gave him nothing.
Yes, that's how petty it can get.

The evidence was the gunshot wound.
What is the point of having hospitals report gunshot wounds, if a gunshot wound can't form a reasonable basis to connect the individual to known crime involving a gunshot wound?
Investigative detention, at the very least.
We want to address some confusion surrounding the investigation into the home invasion in the Bridle Path neighbourhood.
Investigators immediately recognized the potential connection between the home invasion and the individual who showed up at hospital with a gunshot wound.
But recognizing a potential suspect and having enough evidence to arrest them are two different things. Suspicion alone isn’t enough. Police need reasonable grounds, supported by evidence, to make an arrest.
We will continue to gather evidence and will go where the evidence takes us. We are grateful for the professionalism, tenacity and commitment of our investigators who continue this work.
Let’s keep the focus where it belongs: finding the outstanding suspects and holding those responsible for this violent home invasion accountable.

I used to be totally in the hands of the kids. You’d be out in the night, unsupervised. You couldn’t recognize anyone. Rumors went flying through the streets. The only thing adults did was buy some candy and turn off the porch light when they were all out. I remember that when you finally went home you’d be exhilarated but also grateful to have made it. There were no decorations except one jack-o-lantern per house. No adults wore costumes. The fathers had fought in WW2. They weren’t going to dress up like a ketchup bottle.
