A Deputy Minister (Dr. Jack Bloom) is abusing his privileged status in government by using government information to promote narrow party interests. We are honestly in big trouble with this party, the DA. They then call any coalition without them chaotic when they are the masters of chaos!

What a strange ill thought out obsession of the opposition parties in Cape Town. If they had done their homework, they’d realise that the wall is popular across all sectors of the city. ….and their hypocrisy hits one between the eyes
Democratic Alliance's Cape Town mayoral candidate Geordin Hill-Lewis says the proposed N2 wall is not about keeping people out or racial exclusion, but about making the highway safer for everyone who uses it. Tune in to #eNCA on #DStv403.

Throughout this campaign, we’ve met communities that have gone without electricity for months. For some, more than a year. Today we restored power to a third community. This is our commitment to restoring basic services. On 4 November vote DA on BOTH BALLOTS to get this city working for all! 🗳️⚡️ #BelieveInJoburg #Zille4Mayor

Hey @CheckersSA are you aware that some of drivers are participating in xenophobic protests?
PICS: Stalemate as the Police insist that the Durban protesters should not carry sticks while marching.

28 gangsters call you president @GaytonMcK, while our Cape Town Metro Police must fight gangsters and take illegal guns off the streets daily! I work to make communities safer. You have phone calls with gangsters.
I have never seen you come out at nite when kids are laying dead in the streets of CT, you are never at nite on the Cape Flats. You worry about licensed guns, go get the illegal guns from gangsters that get bought by money from tenders from your government.

As South Africa approaches a pivotal local election day, the country faces a slew of political parties consumed with vindictiveness, racial invective & patronage (rent) seeking. None of the above will grow the country and provide jobs and opportunity for its citizens.

If polling holds up, the ANC will be faced with a stark choice. In its weakened form, it either has to expand the existing GNU arrangement (with the DA) down to local or choose an alternative path that excludes the DA. This is a key choice that will impact every aspect of SA.

1. On 4 November 2026, in 10 days, JHB goes to the polls to elect its mayor. I have previously argued that Helen Zille is the only sensible candidate to vote for in this race. This would be a vote for the DA. The importance of this vote was underscored on a recent visit to JHB.

For the ANC, centralising coalition talks away from the regions is an important step to expanding the existing GNU parameters to local government. But, it's politically risky and the ANC may find it damagingly divisive given its own leadership contests & weakening support levels.

In my latest column, I discuss the potential expulsion of Mark Oppenheimer from UCT Council for raising the alarm about antisemitism at the university: "Oppenheimer has a thick skin, and is prepared to fight his corner, but his rights to free expression matter just as much as everyone else’s. I am therefore proud to stand by Mark’s side as he has done for so many others." I am facing suspension from the Council for supporting Mark. Read the article linked below and let me know if you think these sanctions are justified.
