Progressive groups condemned the police complaint filed by the Taguig City PNP against 8 paralegals and activists, including Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN) chair Teddy Casiño.
The complaint stemmed from their participation in the September 10 protest against the US-led Luzon Economic Corridor (LEC) and Pax Silica initiative. They formally received the police complaint today Monday, November 3.
The five paralegals and three activists are facing alleged violations of Batas Pambansa 880, or the Public Assembly Act, in connection with the protest held during the LEC investors' forum organized by the US Embassy in Bonifacio Global City.
BAYAN condemned the complaint, describing it as baseless and an attempt to intimidate activists opposing the projects, which the group said would intensify resource plunder, environmental destruction, and the displacement of Ayta Indigenous Peoples in Central Luzon.
The group also held the police accountable for the violent dispersal of the September 10 protest, which reportedly left around 27 activists injured, and the arrest of paralegals providing legal assistance to protesters.
BAYAN characterized the complaint as a Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation (SLAPP), alleging that it aims to suppress opposition to US military and economic interests in the Philippines.
The group vowed to continue organizing protests, including nationwide mobilizations against the upcoming visit of US President Donald Trump.

Metro Manila’s condominium oversupply remains a stubborn challenge, with nearly 80,000 units still unsold despite developers slowing construction and rolling out aggressive incentives to attract buyers, according to Colliers Philippines research director Joey Bondoc.
The slowdown is taking its toll on new projects, with only 2,200 units completed in the third quarter of 2026, roughly half the original forecast of 4,500 units.
But the glut is creating opportunities for property buyers, with developers offering discounts of up to 40 percent on select ready-for-occupancy units, alongside flexible payment schemes and other incentives.
