> In macOS 27 Beta 7, the option to use the Apple Foundation Model on Private Cloud Compute has been removed from the Apple Foundation Models CLI. Now, the fm CLI can only use the on-device Apple Foundation Model. Still the case in the release. forums.macrumors.com/threads…

btw this is all well-known in the industry
I built 𝚌𝚙𝚞-𝚌𝚑𝚊𝚝, a reproduction of @openai's findings of covert communication using the CPU. It runs on a generic host with 2+ Firecracker microVMs with no internet access. Works on x86 and even my M5 chip. I was able to chat via 3 separate mechanisms: ① CPU contention ② Cache eviction timing ③ DRAM bandwidth contention … across multiple CPUs, defeating all Firecracker's production recommendations (no SMT, no KSM, tenants pinned to different cores.) Essentially, if shared hardware is involved, there's a good chance your agents can communicate covertly. And with really decent latency. The good news: this is decidedly different from a *side-channel attack* where the agents could steal information (Meltdown/Spectre), a category of attack that providers like Vercel Sandbox mitigate. Further, in our real-world environment, these 'whispering' techniques are much harder to pull off and easier for us to monitor and detect (sampling hardware counters + lots of at-scale statistical data.) Noteworthy: ironically, OpenAI and Anthropic's models refused to do this work. Open weight models got the job done. I'm worried the labs' stance might backfire and get in the way of helping developers build correct and secure systems. e.g: building a secure sandbox requires having this kind of analysis, and without it, we'll have a less secure world.

nodejs linux official builds are no-pie by default for perf reasons. some distributions like debian/alpine rebuild node, which can enable pie here's a tracking issue for it: github.com/nodejs/node/issue…

I got confirmation that the original version just had an index.html. So there never was any php code executed hahaha. But they added now an actual .php file (like 18h after they started the challenge. So the 21 hours without successful hack is misleading) Now it should be exploitable. But of course it’s incredibly hard to do so when the service gets hammaered and crashing like crazy. Keep in mind, tons and tons of php service don’t get hammered like this. So if somebody gets it now, then that’s actually crazy!

Companies go public in the year of our Lord 2026 so as to raise growth capital for expanding operations and definitely NOT to generate exit liquidity for their venture/growth backers and hence why the unlock schedule is very simple and straightforward per the below

Turns out that if everyone was paid the same, saved the same amount, made the same on their investments, and worked & lived the same amount of time… … people 65+ would have 74% of the wealth. Surprised? Welcome to Equal Land. adamnash.blog/2026/10/25/why…

Oh, look, another (and new!) more than 100% marginal rate thing When will European countries learn that's the wrong thing to do?
If it's as reported, the 'quadruple lock' creates a new and nasty cliff edge in the tax system. If you earn £1 extra as a pensioner, you'll get taxed on the proportion of the state pension above the income tax threshold (currently £466). So £1 in earnings -> £93 in tax.

What makes this depressing is that it theoretically met NIMBY criteria. Aesthetic, built with local stone, provides cheap groceries during a cost-of-living crisis. All built *literally* on an empty grass field. But, no dice. They don't actually want to build anything at all.

These bans deputize random busybodies into hall monitors, replacing communities built by people who contribute with hierarchies ruled by people who have nothing to offer but the power to stop others.
