I am SUPER pro-paying players and have been for a long time. I get the hypocrisy of a lot of these guys. But the point Saban and others have been trying to make is that when talking to these players, money and playing time is the ONLY thing they talk about. Of course it’s important, and you want assurances as a recruit. You deserve answers. Those players deserve to make even more cash than they are now. But imagine if you were being recruited for a job and ALL you talked with your potential boss, was about was how much money you were going to make. Nothing about making the company better, nothing about what you bring to the table, nothing about personal development. Just all about how much money you would personally make. I’m willing to bet they’d throw your ass out of the building after the meeting. He ain’t Dabo. He isn’t saying that players should not make money. He didn’t retire because of it. Saban retired because he feels that’s ALL it is about now, and some of the other things that make college and college athletics special, are dying.
