The US's geopolitical strategy to place puppet regimes all over Latin America has its limits. Brazil is sending a clear message to Trump and the US's imperial designs in the region.

In the rise of the far right, Brazil is “once again in the vanguard, except now of disintegration.” Does Brazil foreshadow a world in which intensifying exploitation becomes the standard right-wing response to the crisis of neoliberalism? jacobin.com/2026/10/brazil-f…

#BoraLula

Sunday’s election will determine the fate of Brazilian democracy, the fate of Latin American sovereignty, and the survival of the Amazon rainforest — which is to say, that of all humanity. In a sane world, Trump's (and Zuckerberg’s) escalating efforts to bring Bolsonaro back to power would be front-page news, but alas… we are not so lucky to live there. Instead, we live in a world where Lula and Bolsonaro are neck-and-neck ahead of Sunday’s run-off. progressive.international/wi…

Gaza made every journalist a legitimate target. What was allowed to happen to Palestinian journalists - the targeted slaughter - made every single journalist in the world less safe. A passport or an institutional affiliation won’t matter and this is a hell of our making because we collectively as the institution of journalism didn’t consider Palestinians our colleagues, as humans worthy of protection & life.
“Let me die,” American photojournalist Heidi Levine repeats to journalists Jasper Nathaniel as they try to outrun masked Israeli settlers who attacked her on Friday while she covered the olive harvest in the West Bank village of Abu Falah, near Ramallah. Around 80 settlers attacked Palestinian olive harvesters in the village, AP reported. The Palestinian Red Crescent said it treated six people injured in two attacks in Abu Falah. Levine, a freelancer for the Washington Post, told the Committee to Protect Journalists that the settlers knocked her down and kicked her for at least 10 minutes, even after she identified herself as an American journalist. They stole her camera, phone and bag. She was eventually taken to a hospital in Ramallah. "The IDF provided cover, with tear gas and machine guns, while the settlers beat" Levine "nearly to death," Nathaniel wrote, adding that soldiers then shot a Palestinian bystander and aimed their guns at and shoved paramedics trying to treat him. AP photos and circulating videos show Israeli soldiers standing over a wounded Palestinian man after they shot him. Andrey X, an activist also at the scene, said a Palestinian man "saved our lives from the settler-terrorists who attacked the olive harvesters and journalists” armed only with a slingshot.

This little girl watched her mother be burned alive in Gaza. If she was Israeli, this image would be front page news. But Israel can kill Palestinians in the most horrific ways without generating any headlines.

Today marks 3 years since the escalation of #Israel’s ongoing genocide against the #Palestinian people. On 7 Nov 2024, an Israeli airstrike on the al-Shati’ school shelter in #Gaza City killed Sa’eda’s husband and their seven children. This is part 1 of Sa’eda’s testimony.
