Humans are stupid. I have been especially stupid. I have been talking about starting a fish business since I met Chief Ibru, and someone landed a deal on my lap recently to sell a company with fishing vessels. I have been trying to sell it instead of trying to buy it. It just hit me inside sleep this morning. I have been thinking too small about aquaculture instead of going all in on marine fishing. This is the same problem with many of our African ideas. We keep limiting ourselves to what we know instead of pushing the boundaries to explore what we don't know. A young man paid to have a conversation about a search fund recently and I was so proud of his approach. We should have more people researching markets and thinking bigger than what will excite VC. The thing that I realized recently was that almost all of the richest Africans with regular cash flow, and not paper wealth, acquired older businesses or reformed old sectors with new models. They didn't do all the innovative things we get excited about. They figured what works and doubled down. Chief Ibru told me, just go and sell fish. Everyone eats fish.

My dad worked two jobs and still studied at the dinner table every night. That energy filled our house, and it still fuels me every day. Enthusiasm really is contagious.

People forget that Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso was the Minister of Defence in Obasanjo's regime from 2003 to 2007. He was the first civilian to hold that position in the fourth republic. Do you know what it means to not be in the military and be a defense minister under Obj? Behind his gentle mien, that man is ROGGED. He and Peter Obi are just a match made in heaven. Take am play fess. 🙏

You will get into trouble for these things, especially in the West. It may not be a big deal back home, but you will lose that job if you do not pay attention. 1 - Commenting on someone’s body. Saying “You’re fat” or “You’ve added weight” can humiliate a colleague, even if you mean it as a casual observation. You have no business commenting on how someone looks. 2 - Making racial jokes or generalisations. Turning someone’s race or nationality into a punchline can amount to harassment, even when you think you’re just being funny. 3 - Mocking people’s accents. Copying how a colleague speaks for laughs can be racial harassment. It is not a harmless banter. 4- Making sexual jokes. Sex jokes, comments about someone’s body or who they might be sleeping with can constitute sexual harassment. 5 - Touching without permission. An unwanted hug or other physical contact can cross personal boundaries and, depending on the circumstances, constitute harassment. 6 - Questioning someone’s sexuality. Asking intrusive questions about a colleague’s sex life or making jokes about their sexual orientation can amount to harassment. 7 - Ridiculing religious beliefs. Mocking someone’s faith or humiliating them for having no religious belief can cross the line into harassment. 8 - Making sexist assumptions. Comments such as “Women aren’t suited to leadership” or “That’s a woman’s job” can contribute to a degrading workplace environment. 9 - Humiliating people publicly. Insulting a colleague or repeatedly belittling their competence in front of others can be workplace bullying. 10- Sharing offensive content in work chats. Sending racist memes, sexual images or humiliating jokes through workplace messaging can still constitute harassment. Just mind your business.

Some of the things you think you want, you don’t actually want. You want how they look. You want how they sound when you tell people. You want what having them would say about you. But the work? The cost? The changes you’d have to make? Not so much. You want a thriving business, but not the selling. You want to be known for something, but not the discomfort of being seen trying. You want the bigger role, but not the responsibility that comes with it. You keep saying, “I want this.” But what you mean is, “I want this, provided it doesn’t ask too much of me.” And that is a very different thing. A big dream will make demands on your time, your money, your comfort and your attention. You cannot keep negotiating your way out of every sacrifice and still expect the result. Not every dream deserves that sacrifice from you. Some dreams are borrowed. You picked them up because someone else made them look impressive. You’ve spent more time imagining people’s reaction to your success than considering whether you’d enjoy the life you’d have to live. So before you spend another year feeling guilty about what you haven’t achieved, ask yourself: “If nobody could see me having this, would I still want it?” “What would an ordinary Tuesday spent building this actually look like?” “Am I willing to make room for that life, or do I just like the announcement?” You don’t have to prove your ambition by chasing something you don’t care about. Let the borrowed dream go. And if the dream really is yours, stop treating the work as an unfortunate condition attached to it. The work is how you choose it. Not once, in a moment of inspiration. Repeatedly, when it costs you something.

Five beliefs that changed my life 1. “I do not owe my past the rest of my life.” You cannot recover the years you spent on the wrong path by giving it more years. Make your next decision based on the life ahead of you, not the need to justify the one behind you. 2. “Some of the things I call my personality are the boundaries of what I have practised.” “I’m not that kind of person” can become a rule that stops you from discovering who else you could be. Before you call something your limit, ask whether you have given yourself permission to be a beginner at it. 3. “The life I want may require feelings I keep trying not to have.” The life you want may involve the rejection, uncertainty or vulnerability you keep organising your life to avoid. You do not have to enjoy those feelings, but you may need to find a spot to cope with them. 4. “I can succeed at a goal and still discover that it was never mine.” You can spend years pursuing something because you want what having it would say about you, without wanting the daily life that comes with it. Before you commit, ask whether you want to live that life or simply be seen as someone who does. 5. “I do not have to dislike myself to take responsibility for changing.” You can admit that your behaviour needs to change without making yourself smaller. Accountability asks you to repair the damage, not to hate yourself.

the loneliest thing about being late-diagnosed neurodivergent is realizing you've been walking around your whole life expecting people to eventually get tired of you. you don't reach out first. you don't ask to be included. you don't invite anyone anywhere. because deep down you're convinced you're the friend they'd rather not have if given the option.

Marriage scares me because you're not marrying a person, you're marrying into a family. Met great people in the past but when I interacted with their immediate families, I had to run. You may enter unplanned battles you didn't envisage by marrying into the wrong family.
