Sharon Horgan had ‘Youth’ in the back of her head for years. The queen of messy black comedies like ‘Bad Sisters’ and ‘Catastrophe’ has created female characters who screw up, screw around, grieve, and sometimes even murder a husband or two. But as Horgan approached fifty, she dreamed of writing a series about the specific chaos of middle aged womanhood.
The entertainment industry is “the worst,” Horgan says. “How it views aging is very, very warped, because everyone is just constantly showing images of what women over 50 are supposed to look like, and there's very little reveling in the reality of it.” Which is why her character flicks through YouTube plastic surgery videos and stares at older women on the bus, comparing her wrinkles and checking her neck for any signs of sagging.
“She wants to have this valuable, creative, couldn't-give-a-fuck kind of life, but she's not there yet,” Horgan says. “I guess I'm just trying to be honest.”

Zack Polanski overheard speaking loudly on his phone on a train saying there's shit loads of new green party members.
And the Greens are going to win elections right across England and Wales in May.

Robert Peston, "Wouldn't you regret Reform UK coming through in Gorton and Denton if The Greens split the left vote?"
Zack Polanski, "We cannot say that Keir Starmer's Labour would be a left wing vote"
"This is the party that wanted to slash disability benefits, then had to be shamed not to do it"
"It's the same party that eventually lifted the two child benefit cap, but it took over 18 months of children living in poverty"
"And it's the same party that is arming an ongoing genocide in Gaza"
"So I don't think on any metric you can say Keir Starmer's Labour party represents the left in the country"
"That's why I'm confident and not complacent that we can win in Gorton and Denton"
this is what the cinema is for ❤️

Funny way of saying: "We raised the bus fare cap by 50%" 🤔
We are capping bus fares at £3.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Misleading language; the cap was previously £2 under the last government. Labour have introduced a new cap of £3.

it continues to be an extremely Bad Sign that the Met is actively asserting itself as a public political actor these days
The horrific terrorist attack that took place in Manchester yesterday will have caused significant fear and concern in communities across the UK, including here in London.
Yet at a time when we want to be deploying every available officer to ensure the safety of those communities, we are instead having to plan for a gathering of more than 1,000 people in Trafalgar Square on Saturday in support of a terrorist organisation.
By choosing to encourage mass law breaking on this scale, Defend Our Juries are drawing resources away from the communities of London at a time when they are needed most.
We urge them to do the responsible thing and delay or cancel their plans.

When I defended my Master’s thesis under the bombing and rubble of Gaza, the very first question I was asked was:
“Why defend it under these circumstances? What benefit will it bring you now?”
I smiled and answered:
“Maybe I will die holding this degree, maybe it will be a symbol of resilience and strength, and maybe I will inspire others not to abandon their dreams — even in danger, even when death is near.”
This is who I am.
I am proud of what I did.
Proud that I defended my Master’s during the war.
Proud to have become a Palestinian researcher ✌️

Robert Redford playing a gentle incarnation of death, coming for a frightened old woman in The Twilight Zone episode "Nothing in the Dark" (1962). An extraordinary performance then, terribly bittersweet today.

Lilith is in a perpetual state of anxiety because when it is demanded of her that she "authenticate" herself she has no cell phone upon which to receive a special code; thus, like the man without a country, she has no identity, she is shunned by all authenticated persons.

This footage is extremely clear. It is the Met Police assaulting people, not the other way round.
London's Metropolitan Police arrested an elderly woman during a silent protest, violently carrying her away as she joined hundreds holding signs declaring, "I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action." Disturbing footage then revealed officers escalating to brutal force against other demonstrators in a shocking display of repression against peaceful dissent.
