I’m in love with this sentence: “One of the most underrated skills you can learn is the ability to ignore your mood and stick with the plan.”

You develop more emotional intelligence by reading classic novels rather than self-help books.

I can’t believe we’re two months away from 2027 and the easiest way to save something as a PDF is still to lie to your computer and tell it you’re about to print it.

What a heartbreaking week it has been. Sir Patrick Stewart was a friend, a colleague, and a magnificent actor. From the stage to the bridge of the Enterprise, he brought intelligence, grace, and a deep sense of humanity to everything he did. Captain Picard stood for the best of us, and so did the man who played him. I was filled with affection and admiration for him and his work. My heart goes out to Sunny and his family. He will be deeply missed.

This is private equity, this is what it does. Buy up businesses, run them into the ground, and rip them apart for short-term profit. The developers at BioWare know how to run the studio. They know how to make the games we all love. They should be given the first opportunity - and the federal support - to buy it and run it themselves. And if we want to avoid the Mass Effect effect in Canada, we should be keeping private equity out, not welcoming it in. pcgamer.com/gaming-industry/…

Carrie (2026) is the greatest adaptation of the novel…..until it’s not. For seven episodes, this is yet another brilliant showcase of Mike Flanagan’s immense talents. Summer H. Howell is the best version of Carrie, Alison Thornton is incredible as Chris Hargensen and the show overall is a haunting, ambitious and layered look at how American institutions are currently failing our children. If you stopped at episode 7, this might be Mike Flanagan’s best work. But unfortunately, there’s episode eight. A bizarre and frustrating season finale, that trades out closure and finality for franchise baiting and Multiverse building. The character of Emaline West is an absolutely abysmal character that completely undercuts Carrie’s agency (Please kill her off immediately in Season 2). That and the show weirdly introduces a secret society of X-Men like individuals for the sake of more seasons. It’s weird, it’s out of place and the only way it’s justifiable is if future seasons knock it out of the park. If Carrie had been one season and cut out all of the secret society bullshit, this might be a top three Stephen King adaptation of all time. Instead, it’s an incredible season of television that fumbles at the goal line. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It's still blowing my mind that Kawhi came back, forced his way here, took less money twice to stay long term, and is set on retiring in Toronto. His return is even more inexplicable than his departure in the first place.

An isolated fur-trading outpost in the 1800s, dwindling supplies and something in the snow that wants to eat you. This is my kind of folk horror.
An ancient evil hungers for human flesh in the frozen Canadian wilderness. Luke Hemsworth, Kevin Durand and Michael Pitt star in 'ITHAQUA,' a folk horror nightmare coming to the UK through Hammer Presents. Watch the new trailer.

NEW: Criterion to open permanent brick-and-mortar retail home in downtown Toronto in collaboration with Canadian distributor Cinema Cellar (formerly known as Unobstructed View). Shop on John Street will open during #TIFF26
UPDATE: I'm now hearing that there will be something "Criterion-related" in the Mobile Closet's place, nearby TIFF's Festival Street. My lineup offer still stands, though. #TIFF26

Hey so this is called a “genre”
Martin Scorsese basically made the same movie four times with Goodfellas, Casino, The Irishman, and The Departed. Same crime world, different characters and perspectives each time.

Don’t think Ferrara would approve, but Bad Lieutenant becoming an auteur anthology is pretty sick imo
