SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026)
Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love.
We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren’t in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk—getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?”. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London’s West End and on Broadway.
America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire.
His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen.

Excellent storytelling by Shaun Pollock on team meetings and how it doesn't always help... Perhaps why MS Dhoni didn't believe much in them and at max had a minute or so before games!
Also, notice the quality of commentary here compared to what Indians are fed with! 🙏@abcsport

I heard someone say “I don’t feel like myself lately, I must be growing” what a beautiful perspective for uncomfortable seasons.

can we normalize returning summaries to the backs of the books again instead of reviews and praises? i just want to know what the book is about.

still remember watching a David Attenborough documentary where he mentioned that at full gallop the Cheetah's whole body is lifted off the ground longer than the times the paws makes contact, so in a way the Cheetah is almost flying.

The real water reserve is beneath our feet. Soil has the capacity to hold 800% more water than all the rivers put together. But that potential can be realized only when the land has substantial native vegetation in the form of trees, bushes, summer crops, or ground cover that enriches the soil organic content. It is not just about building more dams to store more water. The biggest dam on the planet is the Soil. –Sg #SaveSoil

“The lifestyle of an entrepreneur at its core is: I can take more pain than the other guy, and I'll prove it.”
“ There's a zen that can happen when a warrior has fought for a long time. You can get used to it.”
“ You almost start accepting it. Like, something bad happens and you don't even get mad.”
“ There are benefits. But you need to make sure you don't get so used to it that it doesn't even bother you. You can get so zen, you're unbothered.”
“ There's something special about the extra fierceness of being bothered, being upset about something that is wrong.”
