Condescension is often the tone of the ignorant attempting to educate those they disdain but do not understand, and so the exercise is more often one of self-aggrandisement and tribal signalling, than it is of genuine mentorship. When someone purports to be teaching or otherwise bestowing some level of wisdom upon you, all you need ask yourself is “does this person really understand me?” Can you, being humble and radically honest with yourself, see yourself in what they say? And if you cannot, because they have not demonstrated that they do, then it is safe to assume they are not speaking from empathy, but self-righteous elitism.

The new Mac OS suggests filenames for new text documents as I type in the default text editor, putting them in the header bar before I even attempt to save. This feels weirdly invasive.
