The first step of awakening into consciousness is the desire to not participate not society anymore.
No club will pay £300k a week for Rashford at his current level. Waiting for a top club in the summer was a strategy to force his reintegration. He knew what he was doing.
Rashford’s insistence on remaining at United shows how selfish he is, and that attitude is reflected in his commitment on the pitch. He has proven difficult to move on.
If he was earning £100k, I’m sure he would have gone to Saudi in the summer without hesitation. Because he earns £300k and won’t get more than that elsewhere, he then decided to stay. A Selfish Lad.

“Broken Wings” was written in about twenty minutes at the home of Mr. Mister vocalist Richard Page, with his bandmates Steve George and lyricist John Lang. Page started with a bass line over a drum machine, and the song came together before they had even planned to write. The title and central inspiration came from the 1912 novel The Broken Wings by the Lebanese writer Kahlil Gibran. Page has said the similar line in the Beatles’ “Blackbird” was an unintentional coincidence.
Although RCA Records wanted to launch the album Welcome to the Real World with a more upbeat single, the band insisted on releasing “Broken Wings” first. Their gamble paid off: the song reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in December 1985, where it remained for two consecutive weeks. It also topped the charts in Canada and reached the Top 10 in the UK and several European countries, becoming Mr. Mister’s biggest hit and launching the band to international fame. The following single, “Kyrie,” would also reach No. 1.

🚨🗣️ Roy Keane on Lisandro Martinez interview:
“I’ve never fallen in love with a current United player like I have with this lad. He has the guts to say what even the manager is afraid to say. I love players who speak their minds and aren’t afraid of the consequences. Honestly, I absolutely love this guy!” 🔴
🚨 Roy Keane on Luke Shaw refusing to go down after Rodrigo Bentancur headbutted him:
“Everyone’s talking about the headbutt. Fine. It’s a red card.
But I’d like people to watch what happened before it.
There’s a loose ball and Bentancur comes flying in as though somebody’s told him the ball is leaving the country.
Luke Shaw is going towards it. He sees the challenge coming and gets himself out of the way.
And thank God he does.
Because if he leaves his leg there, we’re not discussing a headbutt. We’re discussing whether Luke Shaw will be playing football again this season.
Now, Luke has had his injuries. He knows what it’s like to spend months watching football instead of playing it.
So I can imagine what’s going through his head when he sees a man throwing his entire body at a loose ball.
‘Not this again.’
And he jumps out of the way.
Some people will say, ‘Oh, he pulled out of a challenge.’
Yes. And he’s got two functioning legs afterwards. Good decision.
But then Bentancur gets up, Cunha goes towards the ball, and there’s another wild swing at it.
I’m watching this thinking, ‘Does he know there’s a football match going on, or is he trying to remove the ball from the stadium?’
That’s when Shaw goes over and pushes him.
Now, was the push necessary? No. I’d tell Luke that myself.
You can have a word with somebody without putting your hands on him.
But I understand why he’s angry.
He’s just avoided one dangerous challenge, watched his teammate nearly get caught by another, and he’s looking at Bentancur as if to say, ‘What exactly are you doing?’
Bentancur goes down from the push, gets back up, and decides to put his head into Shaw.
And this is the part I liked about Luke.
He doesn’t collapse.
He doesn’t grab his face and roll around waiting for the referee to notice.
He stands there.
Somebody beside me said, ‘He could’ve made more of that.’
I said, ‘Why should he have to?’
The referee can see what happened. The cameras can see what happened. A headbutt doesn’t become a headbutt only when somebody falls over.
I played in an era when players would tell you exactly what they thought of a challenge. Sometimes with words. Sometimes not with very polite words.
But there’s a difference between playing hard and being reckless.
A hard tackle has a purpose. You’re trying to win the ball.
When you keep launching yourself into challenges without any regard for the person in front of you, don’t act surprised when somebody has something to say about it.
And don’t confuse Shaw staying on his feet with the incident being harmless.
He doesn’t have to fall down to prove somebody’s lost his head.
The funny thing is, Luke spends the whole sequence trying to keep his legs out of trouble.
Then Bentancur gets himself sent off because he couldn’t keep his head out of trouble.
I’d be having a word with Shaw about the push.
But I’d be having a much longer conversation with Bentancur about everything that came before it.”

P … is for Pennines
Peter was described once as “The Pennine Landscape Painter”. The name was used as the title of an early book and the name stuck.
Who can argue with that title?

🚨 Kobbie Mainoo on the message David Beckham sent him:
🗣️ Kobbie Mainoo: “David messaged me after one of our games and I honestly didn’t know what to say at first.
“He said, ‘Kobbie, I’ve been watching you. You’ve got something United players are supposed to have you don’t look scared of the shirt.’
“I thanked him and thought that was the end of it.
“Then another message came.
“He said, ‘I keep hearing people compare you with midfielders from the past. Scholes, Carrick, even me sometimes. Don’t listen to it.’
“I replied, ‘Why not?’
“He said, ‘Because the moment you start trying to become someone else, you stop becoming the player you’re supposed to be.’
“Then he said something that really caught me.
“‘You’re playing for Manchester United at a time when everyone is desperate for the next superstar. Don’t rush to become one. Just become the player your team needs.’
“I asked him, ‘What would you do if you were me?’
“He replied, ‘Ask for the ball when everyone else is hiding.’
“That message stayed with me.
“And then he finished with, ‘One more thing, Kobbie. If you ever score a goal that wins a big game at Old Trafford, don’t celebrate like you’ve made it.’
“‘Celebrate like you’ve just started.’
“I screenshotted that message.
“Because when someone like David Beckham talks to you about Manchester United, you listen.”

🚨Roy Keane on Manchester United being eliminated from the Carabao Cup by Brighton:
🗣️ Roy Keane: “I said before this game that I didn’t believe Michael Carrick was the man to win Manchester United trophies, and tonight, in his first cup game in charge, they’ve been knocked out by Brighton.
This is the same Brighton that eliminated Manchester United from this competition this time last year. A year later, after another transfer window, another manager and less money spent, we’re back in the same place.
Knocked out by Brighton again.
And this isn’t just about the manager. There is a mentality problem at this football club.
I watched Zirkzee give the ball away in his own half and then look completely casual about it. I watched Šeško make the mistake that helped Brighton complete the comeback. Then Rashford gets a one-on-one, the kind of chance you expect a Manchester United forward to bury, and he wastes it.
At some point, I stopped feeling sorry for them.
I started laughing.
Because what else can you do? It was embarrassing.
Manchester United are supposed to have players who stand up when the pressure arrives. Instead, when Brighton came back at them, United looked terrified of the game.
And let’s talk about Bruno Fernandes. A player who gets nominated for the Ballon d’Or, but when people talk about the very best players in the world, his name barely gets mentioned.
Why?
Because playing for Manchester United right now doesn’t help you. The standards have fallen so far that even our best players are being dragged into the chaos.
But Carrick has to take responsibility tonight as well.
He chose to start Rashford and leave Cunha out. That decision changed the balance of the team. When the game became difficult, United needed someone who could carry the ball, create something and give Brighton another problem.
Cunha was sitting on the bench.
Carrick made that call.
So yes, the players have to look at themselves. But the manager has to look in the mirror too.
This wasn’t just losing a cup game.
It was Manchester United showing, once again, that the same problems are still here.”
