“what being a leftist really means is pretending to care about the world as a pretext to seize and wield power and get free stuff. it's not care, it's conquest”
no ambre, leftists do not care about others. if that were true, the left would not always be seeking dictatorial control.
what being a leftist really means is pretending to care about the world as a pretext to seize and wield power and get free stuff. it's not care, it's conquest.
this has always been what leftism is about and why it's an inherently destructive, intolerant ethos.
the fact of it is obvious: you never build the means of production, you seize it.
it's not charity, it's legal plunder taken at gunpoint.
every time you guys say "justice" the real meaning is "force."
it's your fundamental fraud and why you are anti-human and anti-progress.
consider:
nothing stops the left from engaging in voluntary collectivism. you could all get together and pool resources and labor, build enterprises, and care for the needy in your communities through your own choices and actions, but you don't because deep down, you know it's a lie and it would cost you instead of those you seek to plunder and coerce.
this is why you steal rather than create.
it's an army of takers masquerading as civilizers.
so give it a rest. there are only two types of leftists:
1. cynical, power-hungry wreckers who will burn the world and murder millions so long as they get to wear a spiffy uniform and live in a big house and boss people around
2. those too foolish and ignorant of history to know that they have been taken in by group 1
the first is a monster, the second a dupe drunk on the lie that submission to monsters is empathy.
and neither one makes the world better.
there is no ethos in the history of humanity that has done more harm and anyone who mistakes that for virtue is desperately unserious.

There are no significant “harms” from global warming.
This is getting stupid.

The CDC never sounded the alarm, not early, not late, not anytime in between. We now have evidence that they were being notified the entire time by their contractor, who could not even process all the injury reports because there were too many.

Heatwaves are not getting deadlier.
In the U.S., over 5,000 people died from extreme heat exposure during the summer of 1936. But we don’t see those figures anymore in the states because A/C was invented.
Europeans north of the Mediterranean, however, still see staggering death tolls because they refuse to install A/C units due to their superstitious aversion to it. Rather than mitigate the natural hazard, they just suffer and/or die when it hits 25°C outside.
Heatwaves keep getting more deadly as global warming speeds up: “Climate change, driven by fossil fuel pollution, caused two-thirds of the deaths”.

this is an unserious take.
1. this has been common practice for 100 years.
2. exactly what "process" is due to someone who snuck in and abused a system?
these recent claims to exaggerated and onerous process are not justice, they're a tactic.
10,000 a day sneak in and the system can process 1,000 deportations means you can never catch up.
but then, you already know that.
the whole point of this overblown "due process" pretense is to make a problem unsolvable and law unenforceable.
and i think people have had enough of this sort of lawfare.
Today, the Fifth Circuit stripped immigrants facing detention in Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi of their right to due process. People who have lived in our communities for years, even decades, can now be locked away with no chance to see a judge or ask for bond. It’s a radical departure from decades of legal precedent and violates the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution, which protects everyone.
This ruling leaves tens of thousands of people imprisoned without the government ever having to say why. It is wrong, and we will keep fighting.

it's a magic word cult.
they do not even understand what the words they are speaking mean.
they think they are magic spells that make people have to agree with them and that silence dissent.
this is the sort of empty headed addle brained identity that emerges from years of cosseted cancel culture.
they argue by assertions they cannot even explain, much less defend.
it can only sustain itself by suppressing debate and discussion.
it disintegrates like sugar sculpture in a thunderstorm when challenged or asked to explain itself.
keep pushing.
this is the fun part.

this new trend of cities, police, governments etc all having to turn off comments on X is amazing.
they keep getting ratioed and running away so they shut off comments in a full-on admission that they cannot participate in or survive the public square.
and yet they feel they cannot leave because this is the public square.
it's glorious.
they are trapped between a zeitgeist turning against them and irrelevance.
let's lean in to both.

The freest banking era in American history also delivered the most stable prices Americans ever experienced, and the federal government had almost nothing to do with it.
Between 1837 and 1863, the United States operated without a central bank after Andrew Jackson killed the Second Bank of the United States. Jackson understood monetary economics better than every Federal Reserve chairman combined, despite his inability to read a balance sheet.
What actually happened? Hundreds of competing state-chartered banks issued their own notes. Suffolk Bank in Boston built a private clearinghouse network that disciplined reckless lenders without a single bureaucrat collecting a salary to do it. Banks that over-issued notes faced redemption pressure from competitors. Imagine that: accountability enforced by markets instead of congressional testimony nobody acts on.
The price level in 1863 sat roughly where it sat in 1837. This represents 26 years of near-zero inflation. The Fed has destroyed over 96% of the dollar's purchasing power since 1913.
Critics called free banking chaotic because bank runs happened. Bank runs also happen under central banking (IndyMac, 2008), except now you get to bail out the gamblers with your tax dollars. The chaos argument collapses the moment you ask who pays for the "stability." You pay. Every year. Through currency depreciation that never appears on any bill the government sends you.
“Bernie Sanders says billionaires should not exist. He looks at the man who makes cars fly and concludes the problem to solve is that such men keep too much of what they create. He has spent five decades in government producing nothing, yet he claims the moral authority to dispose of the men who produce everything.”
A car flew last night. An actual car, flipping in midair on cold gas thrusters and landing on its wheels. Elon Musk's companies built a sports car that does what science fiction promised for a century. The same man lands rockets on barges and builds the machines that carry our astronauts. That is what one free mind, and the thousands of minds he employs, can produce.
Bernie Sanders says billionaires should not exist. He looks at the man who makes cars fly and concludes the problem to solve is that such men keep too much of what they create. He has spent five decades in government producing nothing, yet he claims the moral authority to dispose of the men who produce everything. A man who seeks unearned control over the lives and property of others is corrupt in the fullest meaning of the word, and that corruption runs deeper than any bribe.
A flying car is what men do when they are free. A wealth tax is what politicians do to the men who built it. One of them needs the other to survive, and it isn't Musk.
“Promising voters free stuff is always a winning political proposition; threatening to withdraw established benefits is political suicide. The social state is a ratchet that wins political support at the cost of its own fiscal stability. Turning the ratchet gives today’s politicians short-term wins, booked always against the options and the budgets of future governments.”
The social state has become an all-devouring monster that nobody can stop and it will be the death of us

this wealth tax idea is the thin end of a very large wedge of socialism and stagnation.
even leaving aside that you basically cannot do this because so much wealth is illiquid and values are arbitrary/unknowable, this is the exact lie they originally sold the income tax with.

This crook knows exactly why a billionaire pays the same as a man earning $184,500. He knows because he has voted for the cap and every patch on it for 35 years.
Look at what the money buys. Pay the maximum for forty years and you collect about $4,200 a month at full retirement age. That is the ceiling, no matter how much was taken, because you own none of it. There is no account with your name on it, and Congress may change the terms whenever it likes.
So call the arrangement by its name. It is a Ponzi scheme. Today's workers pay today's recipients. Nothing is invested. The trust fund holds Treasury IOUs, which means the government owes itself, and the only way to redeem one is to tax you a second time. Like every Ponzi, it survives on new entrants, and the birth rate stopped supplying them decades ago. Bernie has known this the whole time.
Now the arithmetic he steps around. The 2026 Trustees Report puts the retirement fund's depletion in late 2032, six years from now, with an automatic 22 percent cut to every check. The federal debt crossed $40 trillion in August.
Which is why the billionaires are suddenly needed in the pot. The scheme requires fresh money to pay the last round, and he has run out of workers to take it from.
Then run his own numbers. Every billionaire in America, all 989 of them, holds about $8.4 trillion. Seize every dollar and you have covered a fifth of the debt, nothing of the deficit after that, and none of what is already owed to people who paid in. The fund still dies.
And you would not be seizing dollars. That wealth is shares in Apple, Nvidia, Amazon, Berkshire, the same companies inside every 401(k) and pension in the country. Liquidate it and you crater the retirement savings of the people he claims to be rescuing, to buy a few years of a scheme that still collapses.
Billionaires pay the same amount into Social Security as someone making $184,500.
If we ended that absurdity & applied the payroll tax to all income above $250,000, Social Security would be solvent for 75 years & benefits would be expanded by $2,400.
Let’s do it.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The Social Security Administration (SSA) has modeled uncapping the payroll tax with no benefit changes and found it would return the program to annual surpluses for just three years, through 2029, at which point annual deficits would resume.
