The hypocrisy is staggering. Unionism controlled the place for decades while Catholics faced discrimination in housing, employment and political representation. Now nationalists have equality and a legitimate democratic voice, apparently even aspiring to constitutional change is “creating instability.” Meanwhile, look at the recent Drumcree nonsense , resurrecting a dispute that poisoned community relations for years, with all the old “No Surrender” rhetoric and demands to march through an area where residents have consistently objected. If this is your idea of a shared space, it’s unwanted because we all know how this ends up. Believe it or not, this is called EQUALITY, because unionists treated their neighbours like 2nd class citizens for decades, now nationalists have a voice and people like your good self can’t accept it. If anything risks dragging us back towards the bad old days, it’s reopening old sectarian battles rather than respecting communities and moving forward. Irish unity is a perfectly legitimate democratic aspiration explicitly provided for by the Good Friday Agreement, just as remaining in the UK is. Nationalists don’t need unionist permission to advocate for it. If your Union can only survive by telling nationalists they aren’t allowed to aspire to something different, that’s not confidence in the Union , that’s insecurity dressed up as democracy.
