Radar graphs are among the worst ideas in data visualization. The whole point of them is to show the area and you can usually reorder the labels freely in order to create a desired dramatic effect.
Two versions of the same graph:
- left one tells the story that AI is rapidly replacing whole industries
- right one shows the "jaggedness" and reinforces the idea that humans will always have something that AI won't be able to replicate

Obama: "At some point, you age out. You're not connected directly to the immediate struggles that folks are going through. I'm not making a hard and fast rule here, but I think Democrats do well when we have candidates who are plugged into the moment. To the zeitgeist. To the times."

One of my favorite charts in the entire economics literature.
Price discovery and information technology are good.

The two American parties are not alike
It is astonishing how much the Republican base is in thrall to a cult of personality and blindly approving of whatever the leader does.

This week I wrote about a colossal market trend that doesn't get anything like enough attention - the rising share of equity wealth accounted for by Americans in their 70s and older, who are increasingly ignoring traditional financial advice and taking on more risk.

The irony is not lost on anyone that the only age bracket that comes close to breaking even on whether the Canadian economy is good or bad, is the age bracket that's no longer in the workforce

If you *only* used SAT to admit to elite colleges, share of admits from top 1% income falls 15.8% → 9.9% and representation from <$200k rises by +8.8%, with no reduction in post-college outcomes.
It's 'holistic review' and 'ban SAT' policy that allows the most wealthy and powerful to virtue signal while getting an edge.

Trump knows exactly what he’s doing. He’s waging war on the very idea of truth. And he’s winning.”

While demographic analysis can be reductive, I think this table is extremely revealing.

Why are personal injury attorneys the marginal bidder for roadside billboards in so many parts of the US? Is the sector really so large? A priori, I would never have predicted this.
Quick investigation: "Costs and compensation paid in the U.S. tort system reached over $529 billion in 2022, or over $4,200 per U.S. household." 2% of US GDP! Also appears to have compounded meaningfully faster than GDP over the past decade.

Don’t listen to the Fed which says tariffs will lower growth and raise inflation. Don’t listen to the financial markets which are disappearing trillions of dollars of shareholder value and Americans’ savings along with it. Don’t listen to the investment banks which are rapidly raising the chances of a recession. Listen only to Trump.
As you watch the market tank again with futures open and wonder whether Congress is going to step in, remember what @SpeakerJohnson has been saying publicly and privately
Johnson says people should trust Trump because he created the greatest economy ever last time and will do it again. Johnson says republicans should stay strong and support the tariffs.
He said this again today on a gop conference call.

The S&P 500 has lost 10.5% of its value in two days.
Since 1980, we've only seen larger declines three other times: the '87 crash, Nov 2008, and Mar 2020. And those weren't due to policy choices.
This may be the largest self-imposed destruction of wealth ever.
